What trainers do I need for winter?

I've decided I'm going to retire my dark-coloured AF1s - mainly because the soles are so damn slippery in the wet, and hate feeling like I'm going to wipe out every time I go outside.

All my other trainers are white or have patches of suede, so they'll be ruined outside instantly in the winter.

Is there such a thing as a cool trainer that looks nice for everyday wear, isn't slippery, and can handle rain and winter pavements? Help me find the Holy Grail! Smile

Following. There are lots of waterpoof trainers on the market at the moment but I don’t love any of them.

Winter = boots.

one of the new balance styles has excellent grip but they only do fabric uppers.

I have been looking for a winter trainer. Tried on converse yesterday with a winter looking sole but had too much of a platform for me. Ended up buying boots instead.

Oh wow so it's not just me who can't find a solution!

Still hoping an S&B styling genius will pop up and share an inspiration with us!

In the meantime - these might be the closest I've come to finding an option - but I just feel a bit meh about them! Thoughts?

I posted my winter trainer options the other day OP and everyone laughed at them 😂. High tops or boots seems to be the consensus!!

I'm looking for some leather high tops that look ok with a work dress. I've actually seen some at hotter. I just can't bring myself to buy them as it may be a slippery slope.

yogiil · 06/11/2022 07:48

not a fan of those op & I think they will be skippy

yogiil · 06/11/2022 07:48

or slippy

I’m also on the hunt. I want leather trainers rather than fabric for bad weather. Black, but not all black. Not high tops, ideally Nike but open to other brands.

i have some great Nikes at the minute but they’re falling apart.

Jigsaw always have nice leather trainers. A bit spendy, but stuff I have from there lasts for years www.jigsaw-online.com/collections/trainers?gclid=CjwKCAjwtp2bBhAGEiwAOZZTuBlUvrfrhV3lq4gypuJpS2f26TBw1AYHXXNgTPrS3wrey0i25XO0iBoCj_wQAvD_BwE

Most goretex lined trainers won't fit current fashions. They will be hill walking or fell running styles. They will have great grip though.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 06/11/2022 08:03

I have Ash leather hightops which have been fine in the rain. Not sure how grippy they'll be on icy mornings, though.

I use Mountain Warehouse walking shoes

Caspianberg · 06/11/2022 14:21

Giesswein boots

Scotch guard is your friend here, it’s been a total game changer for me - magical waterproofing for literally everything and mud etc either doesn’t stick at all or just wipes off.

illiterato · 06/11/2022 19:19

There is a solution- go to a shoe mender that fits Vibram soles and get them to affix those soles to the bottom of any shoe you want. Voila- no more slipping.
