Decent shampoo for dry hair that doesn’t cost the earth?

My hair is really dry from about half way down due to years of highlights & I’m gradually growing/cutting it out. When I go to the hairdresser she always tells me the importance of decent shampoo & conditioner and not to buy from supermarket/Boots etc. With current cost of living situation I can’t justify buying from the salon, it’s just too expensive.

Can anyone recommend any good products that don’t cost the earth? Is it really the case that all supermarket shampoos etc are terrible for your hair?

I use ogx as an in-between salon and supermarket. You can still buy it in supermarkets - it’s about £7 full price but often on offer for £3.50 so I wait until then and stock up. It doesn’t have SLS and the coconut miracle rescue is amazing for my dry overprocessed hair!

another thing I’ve tried that’s been amazing is the Superdrug olaplex dupe (£13 full price again on offer usually £6.50-£9) which is a hair rescue, bind reconstructor kit by Pureplex. Really recommend this for over processing/bleaching as it helps restore it rather than moisturise

Does she also try to sell you the brands from the salon? Not daft us she?
You need sulphate free, Garnier Hair Food range is excellent. The papaya one is more hydrating and nourishing I find than the Shea one (I thought the latter would be)
Herbal Essences also do some good ones, the avocado one in particular.
HE is generally a bit cheaper than the Garnier but you can find both regularly on offer. I switch between them and my hair has never been better. (it's dry and curly so very hard to keep hydrated)

@TheGirlWhoLived thank you, I’ll have a look for these

@PAFMO yes she does! Every time I go she asks about my products. One time I did buy from the salon & I certainly didn’t see any difference in my hair. Thank you for those recs, I’ll have a look. There are just so many products on the shelves I never know what to go for!

I know! My teenage daughter did the research for me!
Another one we used to love was from Allbeauty and was the macadamia range, bit more expensive but bought it in litre bottles so worked out not too bad. Haven't seen it since Covid though and tbh, the 2 above are better IMO.

Giovanni stuff is nice, I usually get the giant bottles from TK maxx

Appreciate this is the body shop, which I try to avoid on principle, but their banana shampoo & conditioner is quite good
