Cystic spots-how do you deal with them?

I generally have good skin but over the years-generally when run down or my hormones are all over the place, have had isolated cystic spots. I don’t ever have loads of them-usually just one, once every few months, but they are HUGE, deep, painful, have no head, cause swelling (especially when near my lips) and take ages to go.

I wondered if anyone had anything to try putting on them to help them go? Searching seems to bring up US sites where people can do to their dermatologist and get a cortisone injection into the spot, but I can’t imagine that will happen over here?!

Leave it alone. If it is swollen, an ice pack can help.

When they're getting close to a head, acne stickers can help things along a bit.
I also found that going on oral contraception has drastically reduced the number I get. I take Yasmin.

I was recommended Mario basedcu drying lotion. They're dreadful aren't they?

If you go to the GP, ask for Zineryt. It's a topical antibiotic and it will speed up the process. Strong stuff, but itt works.

Yes to Zineryt. Brilliant stuff.

I can third Zineryt I’ve used it as have my kids unfortunately -it does work though

Dermatica helps with my cystic acne. I have mix of adapalene, niacinamide, and clindamycin.

I can also vouch for Zineryt. It worked wonders for me in my 20's. I did become sort of immune to it after a few years though.

I went on Roaccutane for these about 10 years ago. Drastic measures but it worked almost immediately and I've never had one since.

Aspirin, applied topically as a paste, reduces swelling and can take the sting/pain out. My face really swells up, though I think/hope it’s more noticeable to me than others.

Acnecide can have an effect.

I actually find applying really heavy moisturiser, and really piling it on and leaving it to sink in, can help since basically the skin is inflamed and needs soothing. It can reduce the size of the bump and help it come to a head.

Dermatica with clindamycin and tretinoin for prevention. And ideally the pill or HRT as imo it’s all entirely hormonal.

I got an online prescription for duac (from boots cost maybe £30?) it’s worked wonders. I just use it when I have one now and it shrinks it and speeds up the healing. They are so ugly and painful!
