WWYD with black trousers, black shoes, plain sweater

I've backed myself into a bit of a corner for work.

I've got some lovely black loafers, 2 pairs of black wool trousers and various plain cashmere fine jumpers.

It's very practical but OMG it looks dull!

Looking for inspiration, what would you do with this as a base?

Lots of fine, layered necklaces. Or a big chunky necklace if you prefer those. Nice watch.

Belt with an interesting buckle.

colourful socks!

Blackcurrant nail polish, silver bracelet or chunky necklace.

Magenta82 · 03/11/2022 15:38

I love a scarf, they can really lift a dull outfit. Not that yours sound dull, you sound classy and tasteful.

hoorayandupsherises · 03/11/2022 15:43

Shirts with small but quirky prints under the jumpers?

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 03/11/2022 15:45

I wear a low cost version of your wardrobe in winter.
I cant stand them, but a scarf or necklace to lift it all?
Some other accessories?

FatToFitPart3 · 03/11/2022 15:47

Bright patterned scarf
long chunky necklace
big brooch
bright belt

MakingNBaking · 03/11/2022 16:01

What sort of neckline on the jumpers? If V neck, a coloured vest or cami underneath
Scarf, obviously
Statement necklace (caught the last few minutes of a programme last night about the new King on ITV, there was a young female historian with such a brilliant statement necklace on, I loved it)
Clip on collar things
Bright belt
If you've long hair, then a side nape height pony with statement hair tie scrunched thing

Hopeislost · 03/11/2022 18:05

I'd add a lace collar, or a base layer with a frill neck to liven it up a bit.

DoodlePug · 03/11/2022 18:40

Thanks so much. Loads of ideas. Nothing there I won't try 👍

I'm in a jewelry rut at the moment so need to look for some more economical pieces to mix in.

And find a scarf demo on YouTube 😆

Those false shirt collars - you could get a blue chambray one and a white one.

Retailqueenie · 03/11/2022 20:33

False collar - I’ve got a few - button done up, makes a dull jumper waaaay more exciting..

dudsville · 03/11/2022 20:35

This used to be my work "uniform". After a while you get so accustomed to it you stop seeing it for what it is, a classic tasteful simple outfit. I'd hold your ground, but maybe try a nice collared shirt under the jumper. If your clothes are well made, in good condition and fit you well then you're winning at dressing with ease.

Coffeepot72 · 03/11/2022 22:04

Are scarves still in fashion? I don’t mean big woolly scarves you wear with your coat, but I thought the ‘accessory scarf’ had its day around a decade ago?

Work out what colours suit you (and drain). Find your "pop" colours (not necessarily brights) and wear these at the head, ears, neck.

Add for example a shrug, card, gilets, waistcoat, and you could include scarves, neckerchiefs, even a tie. Use colours that suit you for accessories - belts, broaches, scarf rings.

Good to work out your signature metals too. Utilise what suits your skin tone, silver/grey/gunmetal or gold/copper and tie in these colours on your buckles, zips, buttons, and jewellery. It helps with that "put together" look.

www.thread.com is good for helping you find out your colours and style. You can look for specific items and they suggest outfits and items. You don't have to buy but if you want to, you can set a budget and the prices align with the online shops for the brand they are affiliated with. There are other services like this. I don't work for them or have shares etc.

O, and double jumper. Wear a thin-ish one and layer by tying a chunky jumper in a different colour or tone on top. Scandi-look sound like your style? www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/how-to-dress-like-an-scandinavian--324892560626491170/

Colourful, lightweight scarves for now. Warmer colourful scarves when the weather turns colder.
I have a variety of silk scarves (and not very expensive) in various colours and sizes. They can really help to lift an otherwise neutral outfit.
