Silk pillowcases…worth it?

Are these any good?!! I’m now of a certain age and wake with creases on my face, which then don’t disappear for about two hours!

Also, heard they are good for the hair?
If they are recommended, are there any good ones, slightly cheaper than Blissy or are they best?!

thanks

Yes! Definitely worth it.

woodhill · 01/11/2022 19:57

I've got one but I find it makes me hot, I prefer sleeping on cotton

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 01/11/2022 20:13

Not for me, my head kept slipping off.

Off the pillow that i😉not off my body!!!

sausage767 · 01/11/2022 23:42

@woodhill try bamboo!!

Apileofballyhoo · 01/11/2022 23:50

I got a gift of one from an ethical silk company so it might be worth googling if that is a real thing or green washing for want of a better description.

Blossom4538 · 02/11/2022 00:05

Thank you all, this is so helpful!

Satin is the weave. Silk (or nylon or rayon or whatever) is the fibre. You can get silk satin.

I have Lilysilk - pillowcases, duvet cover, bottom sheet. Lovely and soft. No more maintenance than cotton bedding. It even comes through a hot wash fine, even if it's not planned... and it all dries much more quickly than cotton.

M&S do a pure silk pillow case for £29. They are fab for skin and hair!

KangarooKenny · 03/11/2022 07:18

Yes. Get mulberry silk.

kennycat · 06/11/2022 16:45

Are these any good for stopping hair getting so greasy like I’ve heard silk ones are? Are silk ones actually good for that?!

EBearhug · 06/11/2022 23:34

I didn’t find silk worth all the maintenance.

What maintenance? I just chuck it all in the washing machine like I do with cotton sheets.

Yes. Get mulberry silk.

What is mulberry silk please?

EBearhug · 06/11/2022 23:59

Mulberry silk made from cocoons of silk worms fed on mulberry trees. Mulberry is what silk moth caterpillars eat, so it's a bit tautological.

You can get vegan silk,in which the process means the pupae survive somehow, though I'm not sure of the details. (The traditional process is to boil the cocoons and then unravel the fibre from the cocoons; this inevitably kills the pupae.)

Artificial silk was originally made from rayon, but I think fabric technology has come on a lot in recent years, so there are now other options as well. <vague look>

Love my silk pillowcase but it slips off my bed most nightsConfusedGrin

Zeeza · 07/11/2022 04:50

Absolutely yes. One of the bestvthings I've ever done. Face less creased in the morning, fewer split ends to hair. I've got the whole family using them now.

And changed regularly every couple of nights. Washed in the machine in little wash bags. They do look a bit scruffy if not ironed.

edgeware · 07/11/2022 05:46

For those saying bamboo, are we talking bamboo silk? Confused!

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 07/11/2022 06:24

Personally I’d want to see some studies done on the effects of silk pillowcases, before I’d get one. I just don’t see how they are meant to work, especially on wrinkles.

I think they could help with stopping hair knotting up at night, but otherwise it all sounds like BS to me.

Fair enough. I like them as they don't give me a groove down my face like cotton ones do.

Wheelyweddingwipedout · 07/11/2022 06:43

team bamboo here, they are lovely - cruelty free

dollyknocker · 07/11/2022 06:48

Love mine! I got one that's silk on one side only, its lovely and cool to sleep on, and less creases and frizz. Washes great and doesn't slide off the bed as it's cotton on the other side. Only £20.

Tallisker · 07/11/2022 15:12

Thanks EBearhug

I don't care about studies, I don't really care about the hair thing (although it does work and that was the initial reason for me buying them). I like nice bedding. I like silk pillowdcases, goose down duvets & pillows, linen duvet covers. Is that so wrong?

EfficientlyDecluttering · 17/10/2023 18:24

I had one a few years ago, didn't make the slightest difference to my curly hair or wrinkles, it felt weird being all slippery and it didn't look right on the bed. I gave it away and won't be trying one again.
