Those of you who don't like wearing pants, how do you dress for winter?

I am not a big fan of pants, and now winter is coming. I just want some advice for winter dressing.

Knickers or trousers?

Notanotherusername4321 · 28/10/2022 14:23

I always wear pants. Bit draughty otherwise.

OoooSweetChildOMine · 28/10/2022 14:23

Trousers?

sunlovingcriminal · 28/10/2022 14:24

Maybe switch to longjohns?! Or a woollen knicker for the winter months? May chafe a bit though.

StillNotWarm · 28/10/2022 14:28

Well, if you go pantless in the summer, I'd do the same in winter. It's not like they are big enough to provide much warmth.

InsanityOf2020 · 28/10/2022 14:28

I get the feeling you mean trousers as opposed to underwear. i always have leggins on help keep warm, regardless of the length of the dress. If going out i invest in thick tights (pantihose), you can get some nice lined ones that are flesh coloured now.

ThorFull · 28/10/2022 14:28

Are you from Manchester OP? I remember being shocked during my student job in a clothes shop, that trousers were known as pants.
Mini dresses/ skirts/ pinafore type things with thick tights or leggings. Chunky socks and boots- DM or other ankle boots. Then whatever layers needed on top. Scarves.
i love when the weather changes and I can get my autumn wardrobe back out.

UpToonGirl · 28/10/2022 14:32

I'm Northern - I would call trousers pants.

Op I only wear dresses, I wear tights, boots and a long coat if it's cold. Thick tights if it's really cold. TBH I find if my top half is warm I'm fine, I would maybe add a thermal vest under my dress and a jumper or cardi over and that would keep me toasty enough.

ToThineOwnSelfBe · 28/10/2022 14:38

Fleece lined tights and leggings, and knit dresses with boots, mostly. When we lived in the The North I walked to work every day, even in winter and the aforementioned, plus a long-ish parka (gotta make sure your bum is covered to stay warm!) was plenty enough.

WeAreOnTheRoadToNowhere · 28/10/2022 14:46

I'm northern and pants are knickers in my language. DD calls trousers pants and it has often caused confusion

Blondiana · 28/10/2022 14:51

I apologise for any confusion. I'm talking about trousers, not underwear.😂

That threw me OP! Are you American or do you work in fashun?

Rollingdownland · 28/10/2022 14:58

Sorry just seen it's a Manchester thing. Who knew! (Apart from everyone in Manchester obvs)

ShineOnYouLikeMorningStar · 28/10/2022 15:00

Tights under your dress / skirt? Or leggings if that's more your preference?

In that case the answer is tights. Thermal ones with socks and boots if really cold.

Denim, wool, corduroy and velvet fabrics for dresses and skirts are warmer than cotton or polyester. A long coat is great for keeping you warm and dry too.

BigglyBee · 28/10/2022 15:41

I wear long skirts mostly, and for Winter I have a quilted underskirt that I made (based on a Victorian one I saw in a museum). That and warm tights keep me lovely and warm.

SilverGlassHare · 28/10/2022 15:43

Tights and a skirt. 🤷‍♀️

AriettyHomily · 28/10/2022 15:52

Dresses skirts and boots. I don't think I own a pair of trousers that could be work in winter. I have jeans and wide legged ones but they're all cropped

GBoucher · 11/03/2023 18:39

Hahaha, I was rather shocked at the question because I couldn't see what knickers had to do with the seasons until I scrolled down and saw what you meant. I get by perfectly fine in the winter without wearing trousers. I wear wool dresses and skirts (short ones with tights or knee high boots, long ones with normal shoes), and long wool coats that come down almost to the ankles or half-way down the calves if I need additional warmth. I also wear wool leggings. Not sure if they count as 'pants'??
