Does someone fancy styling me?

I just seem to keep doing a terrible job so any advice would be useful.

I'm 5 foot 10, a size 22, size 9 feet. Dark hair, probably an hour glass type shape.

I need casual weekend clothes, but I really want them to be comfy. I currently wear dresses with leggings which I hate but it's comfy.

I just need all the basics and comfortable but stylish shoes/boots would be wonderful.

So, comfort seems to be your priority, tell us what your other preferences are and what ‘look’ you most desire?

achangeisafoot · 28/10/2022 12:36

I don't think I know what look I want. I keep trying to buy jeans (jeggings) tops and big boots but I always somehow get it wrong.

I want a really easy wardrobe, where I can just reach in and throw something on which is probably how I'm stuck in the jersey dress and leggings rut.

Bumping for any suggestions from the evening crowd, if possible

What three words best describes how you'd like to look?
As a reference, PoW would be Elegant, Feminine, Polished

If you could dress like someone famous, who would it be?
It can be anyone.

Yayasisterhood · 28/10/2022 19:21

What about something like this? this website also has got lots of ideas.

Seasalt has some nice tunics, dresses, tights that suit a fuller figure and go up to a size 24. Autumnal colours.

achangeisafoot · 28/10/2022 19:33

Someone famous .. I suspect this won't help Blush something like Cara Delevinge or Kate Moss.

Actually though that probably helps, I could Google photos of them and try to plus size it up?

OP posts:
KirstenBlest · 28/10/2022 20:24

Why not. Figure out what works on them, and how you could apply it to you.

If I said for me, PoW, it wouldn't work because I don't have her proportions, but I could do her MIL's look (with shorter legs, bigger belly, ratty hair and saggy face).

If you are looking at SeaSalt or FatFace, be picky. Rundholtz (sp) and Sahara might be a better bet.

KirstenBlest · 28/10/2022 20:53

I'm not knocking SeaSalt or FatFace, Both are decent quality and have nice clothes, and a range of sizes, but they do the dress and leggings look very well.
FatFace jeans are good.

If you’re an hourglass shape, make sure you wear things that pull in at the waist. For this time of year, I always think a good coat makes an outfit. A trench coat and then a warmer option that also has a belt would be good. You can wear them open as well as belted. Longer styles tend to look more elegant and are more versatile worn with skirts and dresses. You could also find a good bomber/leather jacket for a change.

I’d go for straight leg rather than skinny jeans or jeggings as it’s more current. You could also try different sorts of trousers. On the top, t-shirts, fine knits and button down shirts that skim rather than cling to the body. Try French tucking (like beige sweater photo) or half tucking (like shirt under leather jacket photo) to define your waist in a more casual, flattering way than tucking fully in.

Ankle boots, nice trainers and some chunky loafers would give you some footwear options.

For an easy wardrobe, pick a few colours that work together and try to shop in that range. If you Google capsule wardrobe guides you’ll find more advice on this.

Hopefully, you’ll end up with a selection of tops and bottoms that are fairly mix and matchable, and a few coats/jackets + shoes and bags that work with the lot.

I’ve had a quick browse of ASOS for some wardrobe staples in size 22, all of these should work in loads of different outfits.

Classic trench coat www.asos.com/prd/201013970?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

Black trousers www.asos.com/prd/200524442?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

@DucklingDaisy , those are brilliant suggestions.

DucklingDaisy · 29/10/2022 10:02

@KirstenBlest thanks!

@achangeisafoot I really enjoy this, so please feel free to message me if you want to chat about it more

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 29/10/2022 10:35

deoends what suits you. I’ve got a friend who’s size 18 and she rocks Joules flowery tops and Breton stripes as well as pale colours.

DucklingDaisy · 29/10/2022 10:38

A few more selections from ASOS:

More subtle (herringbone) black and white coat www.asos.com/prd/202243791?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

Simple denim shirt www.asos.com/prd/203250900?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

Black corduroy trousers www.asos.com/prd/203169676?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

Pink trousers www.asos.com/prd/203743557?acquisitionsource=pasteboard (don’t be afraid to dress tailored trousers down with a t-shirt and trainers)

Black faux leather trousers www.asos.com/prd/203085777?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

Bright green corduroy trousers www.asos.com/prd/203780884?acquisitionsource=pasteboard (you’ll want to be shopping mainly for neutral coloured garments that all work well together, then for the odd thing in a couple of different accent colours that work well with your neutral base, for interest. This green might not work but it’s just an example. You could wear bright trousers with a chambray/denim button down shirt, a white/cream button down shirt, a white or cream knit or t-shirt, black loafers, white trainers or black flat ankle boots, either - black/white coat or a classic camel trench on top. Loads of combos would work despite it being a bright colour because your core garments are so adaptable.

Black, cream and teal satin shirt www.asos.com/prd/202730142?acquisitionsource=pasteboard (another example of something less neutral that should be able to combine with lots of your staple garments. Again, this may or may not be appropriate depending on what colour scheme you decide to go with)

Off white pinstripe shirt www.asos.com/prd/203974403?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

Chocolate brown collared sweater www.asos.com/prd/202089824?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

Cream v-neck sweater www.asos.com/prd/203018130?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

Black knot detail long-sleeve tee www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1114086001.html

Thanks so much @DucklingDaisy - I'm still looking and browsing, the suggestions are really great, I'm building up a wish list and will likely be back for more advice ...

OP posts:
ElizabethBest · 30/10/2022 09:18

OK - I’m a little smaller at size 18 and 5’5, but have a similar figure, and my staples are: George Asda Erin jeans (they’re a pull on jegging but a much thicker denim and less skinny leg than others out there), a slouchy black t shirt (next do a good one), and a chunky cardi (boohoo have loads but they’re everywhere at the moment). Then I add a big blanket scarf, and good trainers - either a really bright colour or metallic as they make things look a bit smarter.

Everything I wear fits well, but the parts people notice are the scarf and the trainers not the saggy bits in between.

achangeisafoot · 30/10/2022 09:25

Ooh are the Erin jeans comfy @ElizabethBest and true to size (I'm actually a size 21 but have started wearing 22 for the extra comfort)

OP posts:
ElizabethBest · 30/10/2022 09:32

They’re really comfy! They do come up a little small but the 22 would probably be good in that case. And they’re only £12.50!

achangeisafoot · 30/10/2022 09:34

Thanks 😊
