Serum for fluffy curly hair?

I have very fine fluffy curly hair. It's in awful condition. I've found a mouse to give volume to my roots but I'm struggling to find a serum or any product that doesn't make my ends go stringy.

Can anyone recommend one? Or is am I putting too much in? Or something else? Thanks

Oooh, try the Umberto Giannini Flowerology bergamot and lemon oil super serum, it's perfect for taking the frizz halo off my fine, soft curls. You don't need much though - 2/3 drops is plenty.

Thank you! It's pricey but I'm desperate for anything that works, so I'll give it a go!

TK Maxx often has it cheaper.

C05 is the only one that works for me, though I haven’t tried the one mentioned above. It’s heat defence as well which is useful. Put it on the ends of soaking wet hair after washing.

Just checking you only brush curly hair when wet? It'll definitely go fluffy otherwise! I like Tigi Curls Rock amplifier. The LookFantastic website has a good range of products for curly hair and generally has good discounts.

I use Noughty To The Rescue serum on my fine, wavy/curly hair - as long as I don't use too much, it doesn't make my ends stringy but still tames the fluff!

John freida frizz ease. Swear by it.

I have fine wavy hair and like you find most serums too heavy.

I found this on Amazon, it's not too expensive and lasts for ages.

Can I ask what mousse you use for the root volume?

PenCreed · 25/10/2022 22:51

Curly Ellie intense hold gel - it's honestly amazing. Doesn't feel heavy on your hair and the hold is fantastic.

BeautifulElephant · 28/10/2022 09:28

@Nolosomi I've been using shock waves, strength 3.

@kittybloom I don't even own a brush! :( I just use a wide tooth comb when wet, that's it.

Thanks for all the recommendations! I'm going to make my way through all of them until I find something that works! I've just bought John Frieda as I happened to be in boots yest.

I could do with someone local to swap my hair products with!

If your hair is fine and fluffy I would avoid serums. Even the thought of it makes me grimace. I would be throwing curl cream and gel on it while it is sopping wet still in the shower instead.

Squeeze it into big lovely clumps and then squeeze the excess water and product out with a sports towel when you get out the shower. Wait until it has started to dry, wet your hands and add a bit more gel gently over the top and then finish drying. Stay away from mousse. I guarantee this will revolutionise your hair routine.😃

BeautifulElephant · 28/10/2022 21:39

@AlabamaWorley22 can you recommend a curl cream and gel?

Well I have quite fine, prone to fluffiness curly hair and I use Curl Flo curl cream and gel. They’re about £17 each so not cheap but there’s usually a code (Welcome25) which will save you 25% off your first order.

these bottles would probably last you a couple of months too.

i do follow the curly girl method but even if you don’t, I really think the approach I suggested would give you much better curl definition, volume and bigger curls than mousse (potentially very drying) and serum (almost certainly likely to weigh your hair down).

personally I only wash (co-wash) my hair once a week and in between I just dampen my hair a bit in the shower, apply another 2-3 pumps of this gel and then dry and my hair has honestly never looked better. I get no product build up and my hair feels as good on day 7/8 as it does on day 1/2.

even if you don’t want to invest in these products you could trial the same approach with a couple of cheaper products first. Eg in place of the curl cream you could use a wee bit of a silicone free conditioner - the cheap Alberto Balsalm one which is less than £1 - and use the yellow Superdrug gel (which is only about £3 but go easy on this one and mix it up with a bit of water).

hope that helps. If the approach works, you could then invest in some better products?
