Skincare newbie - what do I need to do?

This is my first post on Mumsnet so bear with me whilst I learn the ropes!

I'm late 20s and looking to step up my skincare regime whilst I'm still young. I have noticed that when I wear concealer (Collection lasting perfection) it creases in the lines under my eyes which isn't a good look. I also put loads of powder on to 'set' it but I don't think this is working for me but I have NO IDEA about make up and skincare.

My current routine:

  • Wash face with water and Garnier Organic Lemongrass Detox Gel Wash
  • Moisturise with Garnier Skinactive Rose Floral Water day cream

I do this morning and night, that's it.

I would love some guidance as to where I can improve this. Happy to spend a bit more than I am currently.

Areas I'd like to improve / work on:

  • Reducing / preventing fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improving the vitality / glowiness / healthiness of my skin. Sometimes I feel like I can look a bit dull

Thank you in advance! 😊

I'm just scrolling and see you didn't get a reply.

I'd suggest buying the Caroline hirons book which explains skin care by age group and recommends products. Or her website has a fair amount of info.

I think in general it's double cleanse if you wear make up, not with a foaming wash. Vitamin C or glycolic toner for brightness. Sun screen.

I started really looking after my skin in my late 20s.

I would say use a balm Cleanser to dissolve your make up. There's tons out there, superdrug do some great budget ones or The Ordinary or Inky List both do excellent ones.

Then you can use your wash Cleanser

Evening I would add a Retinol if you want to target fine lines. Budget would be the ordinary, if you have more to spend the Medik8 one is excellent.

Then follow up with moisturiser.

Morning
Add a vitamin c after you wash your face. La Roche Posay do a nice mid range one or if you're feeling fancy the Oskia capsules are gorgeous.

Then add an Spf, this is the number one thing you can do to improve your skin.

If you decide you enjoy skincare and want to do more there's lots you can add but those would be the foundations I've listed above.

The best thing you can do for your skin is to keep your body healthy so exercise, eat a good diet, drink lots of water and wear sunscreen.

Then moisturise and possibly wear a nice eye cream. Don’t buy into the cosmetics industry and waste your money on a load of stuff that won’t make any real difference to you.

If you go for retinol (I do) you must use spf. Primark has a great range of skincare now if you want to start at he budget end.

Curious how different you think the ingredients are in eye cream vs Moisturiser?

For me this is the biggest con in all of beauty - overpriced tiny pots of moisturiser

A primer before foundation/concealer will help with the creasing.
Also wearing spf is a must.
