… that you’re obliged to go to but hate any sort of pressure selling and haven’t got loads of money.

Help. It’s on Friday night and I can’t get out of it!

The lipsticks and tinted lip balms are nice.

xogossipgirlxo · 24/10/2022 15:52

Lip fudge or body pebble (my husband used them, they're really lovely and very gentle to his psoriasis skin). If your ambassador has any, lip balms are lovely. They are Burts Bees price, so not expensive. They're very creamy.

xogossipgirlxo · 24/10/2022 15:53

*uses, he still uses them. Sorry.

derryrose1980 · 24/10/2022 15:54

Agree with above. A lip fudge or body pebble is probably cheapest option and really nice to use. I love all three lip fudges. Two are tinted and one is clear.

Goldunicorn · 24/10/2022 15:57

Or mini-packs of shower gel …. Break the pack down for individual gifts (if you’ve got anyone who’d appreciate that).

TheZenOne22 · 24/10/2022 15:59

The deodorant- it’s the best I’ve ever used. The bath pebble is also pretty good and lasts a while.

Or go and don't buy anything?

"Oh well thank you so much for inviting me but I just don't think anything is quite my cup of tea, thank you though"

Or pre-empt the issues before you go "Hi friend/relative, thank you so much for the invite to your party on Friday. I am afraid I really can't afford anything right now. I'm happy to just stay home as I won't be able to buy anything, but I could potentially pop along for one drink if you want - it would be nice to say hello."

Or my probable alternative (if I knew the person well, and wasn't looking forward to speaking to other people that evening) would be to go "oh I'm afraid I just can't buy anything right now, but maybe I could look after the kitchen, keep people's drinks topped up etc, so you can focus on talking to them. I can stay til time before party ends" (so you don't get stuck with the clearing up). I might be quite weird but I like making sure everyone has a drink etc, especially at an event I otherwise don't want to be at - I feel like I have made everyone's evening nicer and it gives a jumping off point for conversations.

HermioneWeasley · 24/10/2022 16:10

Why do you have to go? If you go why do you have to buy anything? It’s a pyramid scheme and whoever is running the event is not entitled to your money.

Evanted76 · 24/10/2022 16:24

The shower gels are lovely. Very luxurious and a real treat. The orange coloured one ( can't remember the name of it) is my favourite.

iloveredwine · 24/10/2022 16:35

The foot pebble is lovely and the lemon body scrub it smells lovely

Conniethesensible · 24/10/2022 20:22

I think you can go, and also not buy anything? Support a friend by showing up, having a good time with a group.

I’ve done the same before, couldn’t afford anything at the Time but enjoyed trying everything out! The ambassador I didn’t know but she didn’t probe or push me into buying - maybe they’re taught not to do this.. don’t feel pressured!

I use their cleanser now, I buy it online. It lasts around 3 months and they donate 10% of what they profit to charity now. It’s made in the UK too. For me it trumps Liz Earle (which has gone really weird now?) And that ce reve one which does nothing but irritate my skin.

JackiePeralta · 24/10/2022 20:31

The hand cream is amazing!

Picklewicklepickle · 24/10/2022 20:35

The hot cloth cleanser is nice, you can buy a travel set of the skincare which is a cheap(er) way to try things out.

The tamanu(sp?) balm stuff.

I’ve been to 2 x Tropic parties and not everyone buys stuff, don’t feel obligated.

lentilly · 24/10/2022 20:38

Can't you have a migraine?

ConfusedGin · 24/10/2022 20:51

I have the tamanu balm and it's amazing! I have patches of eczema and red, dry skin on my face and this has really helped calm them and keep them controlled.

Gingernaut · 24/10/2022 20:54

Fake a positive Covid test

Tell them you've got D&V

Hexenjagd · 24/10/2022 20:57

Strategic migraine

OR

you can say you are allergic to some of the ingredients.

InOtherWords · 24/10/2022 21:00

Elixir radiance boosting oil. Bought a bottle under similar circumstances a few months ago. Love it/ and it lasts for ages.

Fuuuuuckit · 24/10/2022 21:01

Urgh. I hate this sort of thing. Where the host invariably ends us making waaaay more in commission than I can afford to spend even on the cheapest shit.

Be honest OP. I can't afford to buy but would love to bring a drink and share the evening.

Why can't you get out of it?

NancyDrooo · 28/10/2022 12:57

Well, I’m not going. Found out someone I was with all day Tuesday has covid. I haven’t got it - yet - but I told the host and she said best not to risk it as her sister is getting married next week and half the bridal party will be there tonight.

Thank you Covid. Every cloud.

Every cloud indeed! Now fingers crossed and hopefully you won't catch COVID and you've avoided the party. Nicely done!
