Home Olaplex... any good?

My hairdresser recommended it to me but in a salon because I have long thick hair it’d be £100+ and then I’d have to buy the shampoo etc. So I’m looking at home kits. Do they work? Is it fiddly?

I have long thick hair with a slight wave and it looks a lot neater with a blow dry or straightening but something more permanent would be good.

I have tried the Pureplex version and it was OK, but IMHO you will get better results with a keratin kit.

I buy mine from Amazon and it's really easy to use. I don't use a paint brush, just smear it onto my (gloved) hands and pull it through my sectioned hair. It smells awful for 3 days but my very thick hair is manageable and smooth. I only use this twice a year ahead of holidays.

I use Olaplex 3 at home every so often and it definitely works to make my bleached hair a bit better. I also use Aphogee protein treatment which is also really good and cheaper as well.

Olaplex 3 worked for me. Fine hair, beginning to get dryer with age. It does seem to make it healthier, and there are certainly fewer split ends.

I think you don't need to olaplex shampoo and conditioner. Nothing wrong with it, it's fine. But for the price living proof is better for me. You might have a favourite.

I use the Olaplex shampoo and conditioner every other day and the number 3 soak in every month. I was very sceptical but tried it in desperation because my hair was in poor condition. I love it. My hair is so much better.

Another thing I found is that it’s thick concentrated, so the bottles last a long time.

Sometimes they do limited edition travel size bottles, which is what I started with because I wanted to try it without spending so much money.

I would say it’s worth it if you have processed hair yeah. You didn’t say if you do? Because your hair sounds like mine and olaplex doesn’t do anything about that, like I said unless I’ve had it processed. You’d be better looking at more moisturising conditioners etc in that case.

I’ve found it cheaper in TKmaxx a few times if you are considering.

Olaplex 3 is very good but I've had better results with K18.

it does sound like keratin is more what I’d need! I think I’ve misremembered.

I use Olaplex No 3 weekly and it really has saved the state of my hair. I also use No 6 and No 7. I tried the shampoo and conditioner and didn’t like them.

No 3 won’t necessarily leave your hair soft (No 8 is for that) but it helps with the overall texture and strength.

EmmaH2022 · 24/10/2022 20:59

I think I had no3 from QVC

did nothing but you can use and return to QVC so I did.

so it's a different product in hairdressers is it?

Bigslippers · 24/10/2022 21:48

I use the 0 and 3 Olaplex and they make a huge difference to my hair
Tried all the others and they were unremarkable but the zero (leave in for 10 mins and then add the 3 without washing out either) are amazing

Expensive but Ive learnt to apply from midlength and where my hair needs it

I went to an Olaplex demonstration and my understanding was that no 3 should be left on the hair between 10 and 90 mins then shampoo and conditioner in the normal manner .
Do you not wash the 0 and 3 out?

I've learnt a lot about Olaplex from this guy https://www.youtube.com/c/BlowoutProfessor/search?query=olaplex

I swap between 0&3 or just the 3. I leave them in overnight then wash. I have heavily dyed and bleached hair. They do NOT condition, they repair the damage I’ve done. When I can afford it I will have a Brazilian done as I have thick, coarse wavy hair and the Brazilian will leave it looking and feeling more manageable.
