Registry Office Wedding

Have booked to get married in December at a registry office.
There won’t be any guests and just 2 family members as witnesses along with my children.

It’s 9.30 in the morning and obviously won’t be turning up in full on white dress nor do I want to rock up in jeans!!

What on earth would you wear?

Any help appreciated!

Sorry I'm not sure how to link the website but here's some examples of the styles of dresses they sell.

Congratulations!

I got married at 10am on NYE in a registry office. Not one for a white dress or the other bits so I took the opportunity to buy some key pieces that I could wear again, but things I wouldn’t usually have bought. I found some navy suede knee high boots which were more expensive than my usual purchase, a Hobbs wool coat and a cashmere jumper. I got some lovely leather gloves from Mabel Shepard.
I still wear most of the items, although eight years later they have seen better days!

something like this?www.yoox.com/uk/15054860EO/item#dept=women&cod10=15054860EO&sizeId=6

October wedding here. Cream sunray pleated skirt, cream lace collar blouse, pink longer length jacket, beige shoes/clutch bag. A bit dressed up/smart, but not OTT (for me, anyway!).

mavismorpoth · 20/10/2022 14:39

I think it depends what you're doing straight after. I always thought it would be nice to go to a restaurant after for reception, and then I would be wearing a very nice gown.

This is what I’m a bit concerned about.

Nothing!! Will be done and dusted by about 11am

plan is for my dad to take kids after the ceremony and we’ll go off somewhere for the night (not booked yet)

Yes, something like this sounds good.

Not sure about cream for me because I seem to eat like a toddler when I’m in white/cream!!

that’s what I need smart/dressed up but not OTT

Check out the pretty dress company. They have some gorgeous dresses. Loads with long sleeves which would be ideal for a winter ceremony. I've had a few dresses from them ans they're amazing quality and very classy looking.

Never heard of this website. They have some lovely dresses

quite like these

Thank you.

You too.

I like the idea of doing that, so things I could wear again but not necessarily what I’d normally buy

I wore a pretty pink lace dress from ASOS.

Lilbunnyfufu · 20/10/2022 15:14

You can wear what ever you like. I went with the full white dress and veil at our registery office wedding the person that got married before us was in jeans and a tshirt.

I've been to a few registry office weddings and most people wear normal clothes.

Congratulations! I always recommend Self Portrait for weddings because I have a couple and they're so beautiful in real life and so detailed but they also do some lovely classic cuts. If you wanted something that you could definitely wear again this one would be lovely midi in blue

What colours suit you? This velvet dress in teal is very nice. I think the shape would be flattering for most figures and it's dressy without being over the top.

Some heels and a little hand posy of white roses and perhaps sparkling clips in your hair and it would make a fabulous winter bride outfit.

I was originally looking for a Self Portrait dress on Vinted (so covering off something old), these are beautiful. Also maybe Lace & Beads and Needle & Thread? I've forgotten your criteria now, these are more frou frou which may not be your thing...

A little more expensive than I would like but that dress is stunning.

had a look through their website as well, they’ve got some beautiful dresses

Light in the box can take weeks and weeks to arrive and are not always quiet as there photographs - be careful

botleybump · 21/10/2022 06:55

We're doing exactly this today!
I bought a bridesmaids dress from ASOS in a dusty lavender sort of colour, and we've matched his tie.
It's dressy enough that it'll feel like a special day - but not so much that I'll feel out of place.
We're going for afternoon tea locally afterwards so didn't want to stand out too much.

I am getting my hair and makeup done (much cheaper when you don't say 'wedding'), again just so it feels a bit special compared to a normal day.

SollaSollew · 21/10/2022 07:04

i completely agree about Self a portrait they are really expensive. I know someone unthread mentioned Ghost and they re beautifully cut and the fabric is nice and thick so could be an option. this one] is similar in colour and shape to the Self a portrait one but about half the price and handily stocked in M and S
