Face spf50 sunscreen

I’m looking for a facial sunscreen spf50 that doesn’t pill when I apply make-up on top.

I’ve just finished murad, which is great but pricey and wondered if there’s a better value version?

Previously, I had a Kate Somerville but was left with a white powdery-like finish that rubbed off when I applied make-up.

Just started Amber Solaire and have found it pilled both mornings I have tried it.

As I use retinol of an evening and vitamin c in the morning, I wear it every day all year round.

Has anyone found a good quality, good value one that does not pill that you would recommend please?

I like the Eucerin spf 50 with anti pigment. It’s very light and doesn’t pull or get greasy on my skin.

I love LaRoche Posay anthelios 50+, it's very liquidy so I mix it with a small bit of moisturiser to make applying easier. I usually wait 5 mins and apply make up over it no problem.

Sali Hughes did some reviews and I tried the cheapy Ambre Solaire one. This was very, very similar to the Body Shop one at twice the price. My fussy daughter couldn't tell them apart and to me it was OK with light make up.

I have just been away and forgot to take facial sunscreen, I got a 'travel' size of a Vitamin E cream with sunscreen in Superdrug for a whole £1.50, which isn't bad but I don't like the scent. It also took a lot of rubbing in to lose the white cast on the skin.

That Eucerin has great reviews on boots - thank you, I’m going to add this to my list.

I used the LaRoche Posay about 4 years ago and found that pilled, as well as that Amber Solaire, so maybe it’s my application and I’m not leaving a long enough gap between sunscreen and foundation…

Ultra Violette. I've tried the dull range and none of them pill. Best SPF I've tried.

Biore watery essence is excellent.

OrchidFlakes · 19/10/2022 20:37

Have a look at Heliocare. Brilliant suncreams all 50+ and used widely in the aesthetic industry

PeachMelba78 · 19/10/2022 20:37

@bigchanges1 you don’t need to wait too long after application of the Eucerin - 5 minutes is ample.
Im always amazed that no one else seems to recommend it but then there’s more for me! Boots often have a Tuesday offer on it too

Defiantlynot41 · 19/10/2022 20:40

Another fan of La Roche Posay anti-Helios here, have worn every day on its own or under makeup

b8tes7sw · 19/10/2022 20:46

I used Skin Aqua moisture essence

ThistleSifter · 19/10/2022 20:49

Cetaphil 50spf daily moisturiser works for me.

PhoneyM · 19/10/2022 20:51

La Roche posay for me too

muddlingthrou · 19/10/2022 20:52

Eucerin all the way! I find it doesn't pill and doesn't emphasise the shiny bits of my face either.

Homewardbound2022 · 19/10/2022 20:56

I think sunscreen should be applied last?
Try that and see if it makes a difference.

Luxecalmeetvolupte · 19/10/2022 20:58

Had exactly the same problem with the added fun of constantly breaking out. I now use Beauty Pie Featherlight SPF50 every day, it's specifically formulated to act as a primer as well and it's fantastic. Worth doing a free trial of BP to try it and they do multipacks of their SPFs as well.

I second this!

Which one? I tried the mineral tolerance and it was too greasy for me.

Kaftankween · 19/10/2022 21:03

Sam Bunting spf is great. A perfect make up base.

bigchanges1 · 19/10/2022 21:03

Thank you for all of these suggestions.

Skincare and make-up are my feel-good routines and I love to spend time finding the products that suit me well.

I’m not even that embarrassed in admitting that I’ve started a little spreadsheet with the details of these sunscreens you have recommended 😊

Nivea shine control. Cheap and effective.

justhadit · 19/10/2022 21:05

La Roche Posay for me. I only use a tiny bit under makeup and it's fine. If I'm make up free, especially on holiday I slap a bit more on.

Lcb123 · 19/10/2022 21:07

I used To use La Roche Posay but recently found the “Ambre Solaire Super UV Anti Dark Spots & Anti Pollution Face Fluid SPF50+ 40ml“ it’s about half the price and I honestly think it’s the same product

MeLeeSah · 19/10/2022 21:08

I was always a la Roche posay fan until I discovered FREZYDERM literally can not recommend this brand enough!! The velvet spf50 is amazing especially if you wear make up! Love it!

TheOGCCL · 19/10/2022 21:13

Eucerin for me too. The oil control one but also have a tinted one. Sometimes you can get it for £12 in Boots. Bearing in mind how much you need, price is key for me.

VeggieTables · 19/10/2022 21:15

I really recommend Bondi Sands SPF 50 face cream: it's £6.99 for a 75ml tube, and isn't greasy in any way.
