What are your thoughts on this hairstyle or hairstyles if they are two different cuts?

I have shiny brown hair the same colour as the second photo and the same fringe but my hair is longer, it’s down to my bra strap at the back. I used to have long layers but it’s pretty much all one length now .

I got sick of the layers during lockdown so as soon as the hairdressers opened I had them cut off and went to the the length in the photos but all one length. I liked the length on me, however despite frequent cuts it’s ended up long again and for the first time ever I’m

not mad on my hair at the moment. I have a hair appointment tomorrow. I’m 53 if that makes any difference.

Really like it. The fringe looks great.

I really think having a few inches off makes a difference. You feel sharper and more put together.

I’m not sure that layers always work on thinner hair (sorry). I think the same length is better.

I've just had mine cut in a similar style and I love it. I've had so many compliments and it's really boosted me. Go for it! It will always grow again if you're not keen.

Whistlesandbell · 19/10/2022 17:08

Do you think it looks dated or too young for me?
I have medium thickness hair and tonnes of it, as in it takes forever to dry.

If I am brave enough I’ll post a picture tomorrow teatime.

I don’t think it looks too dated or too young. I think it will look lovely.

Do post some pics!

I have this hair style, my hair is long like you, down to my bra strap, I do have a few layers, long ones around the front to give it some movement, I feel if can drag the face down if its all one length, but I am older then you at 62

Thats what I’ve been feeling lately. My hair sort of accidentally got long.

I went for it!

I love it. How did they blow dry your fringe? I either end up with a flat fringe or a very curled fringe. Mind you, I have a large forehead, so maybe there's no hope !

You look fab with it.

Whistlesandbell · 20/10/2022 16:40

Thank you.
The hairdresser did it with a round brush. About a year ago she told me to try cling on rollers and honestly it’s been life changing. I put two in for about five minutes or less while I do my mascara and that’s my fringe sorted. They were about £7 from Amazon and I’ve given loads away Tommy friends.

peachgreen · 20/10/2022 16:44

What size roller do you use OP? We have a similar cut (except mine is wavy) and your fringe looks great! (As does the rest of your hair!)

lentilly · 20/10/2022 16:46

Nice. It would look awful on me as I can never get the fringe right when I dry it myself. Looks fab on you.

coldfeetmama · 20/10/2022 16:49

Love it , really suits you 👍🏼

Whistlesandbell · 20/10/2022 16:49

Thank you
I’ll look through my Amazon orders for the filler size. I think they are about an inch wide and a bit like velcose..

These are the rollers, if you search for cling on rollers they’ll come up. When you take them out don’t panic your fringe will drop a bit in a minute or two. Sometimes I add a bit of hairspray and mess it a bit.

@Whistlesandbell it looks great!

is that your natural colour?

it's pretty much my natural hair colour, except the greys have moved in! Hairdresser tried a lot of different options, but none worked and the bottom soon went quite 'orange'. I have a lot of natural red/ginger in it from my mum. I've given up
on getting it coloured, but it ages me.

my hair has always been fine, very fine, but there used to be lots of it, but not now, it's very thin. (One pony tail is about half of what used to be one pigtail 😳 so about 1/4 of the thickness I used to have)

I can sit on it now, not been cut since the day before lockdown one, but it's ratstails at the bottom & needs a serious cut! My hairdresser became a dog Walker during covid & loves it and isn't doing any private jobs. I'm wary of anyone new, but I'm going to have to brave it!!

Whistlesandbell · 20/10/2022 17:15

Thank you, I’m actually slightly darker but use medium golden brown nice and easy colour. I do it all over twice a year and my roots every few weeks with their root touch up kit.
I also have red/ginger from my mum.

That is a lovely cut, glad you like it.

I really want a fringe, but worried I won't like it and it would genuinely take forever to grow out. Thinking of buying a cheap wig to try it out 😆

Bemoredog · 20/10/2022 21:16

Thanks for the roller info😀

Whistlesandbell · 20/10/2022 22:13

DoodlePug you could try a clip in fringe.

Haircut looks fab...as does your color...i have a really bad cows lick so going to try the roller as well...

Whistlesandbell · 21/10/2022 08:29

Thank you, I have a cows lick too, my hairdresser always has to cut my fridge when it’s dry otherwise it springs up too much in the right side.
You can play around with the rollers with just one in the middle or two, I use two.

Whistlesandbell · 21/10/2022 08:35

Thank you for all the comments about my colour, I was actually getting bored of it and was going to slightly change it but I think I’ll wait a bit now. I used to get it done professionally but since the first lockdown I’ve been doing it myself and I really can’t tell the difference. In fact I like the flexibility, for example if I need a bit of colour on the temples I’ll do a bit. This is halfway through an all over colour and about a week and a half since I did my roots, I normally just do my parting and temples. I do the all over roots which is more of a rough smudge every six to eight weeks.

Your hair looks great, OP!

Re fringe styling - I always use a Sali Hughes trick I read ages ago. You dry it with the hair dryer pointing downwards, while brushing vigorously from side to side with a denman type brush (the kind with 2 lengths of bristle). Takes half a minute.

peachgreen · 21/10/2022 09:20

Amazing, thank you!
