I'm 40 in a few weeks and feel like I've been stuck in a rut for years.

I'm 5'4 and a curvy size 8/10. I have an hourglass shape, verging on pear shape, with a small waist, full bust and wide hips. I have a weird hip dip/flat bottom/larger thighs combo so trousers look awful. I tend to wear midi dresses that are nipped in at the waist. Loose hanging anything looks awful. I also wear shorter A line style dresses with black tights. I used to always wear fitted blazers but these seem too short for todays trend.i wear white addidas trainers or black Chelsea boots but it all seems so uncool!
Can anyone bring me up to date without putting me in clothes that don't suit my shape. I look awful in all jeans, anything baggy or clingy around the hips.

I just need updating. Can anyone help me?

You're not a dissimilar height/ shape/ age to my best friend. She looks great in wide leg trousers with a more fitted top (often jersey type material in the summer, or more knitwear this time of year, think the merino wool sweaters from Uniqlo), the top shows off her lovely torso/ waist and provides a nice contrast to the looser trousers. Wide leg trousers should also skim over the hip/ bum area if you're self conscious about that. You can still get away with white trainers with this look, but chunky loafers would make it a bit more contemporary.

Thank you. This looks great on me from the front but from behind its not good. My bum is just too flat and in a horrible contrast, the material clings to weird pockets of fat on the back of my hips. Trousers are honestly just awful on me unless my backside is covered and that looks awful as it's swamping my best bit (waist/stomach). Grrr! Thanks for thinking though!

Keep looking for blazers. I'm an hourglass and most blazers are too short and make me look too heavy, I need ones which are at least as long as the arms.

I always look on ebay so you get a huge selection in one place, found a nice Harris tweed one and a Joe browns one which are both a much better length.

And get some different coloured boots, black Chelsea seems very safe if you're wanting an update.

I personally find that I really have to go with the hourglass. If anything hangs from my hips or boobs I just look huge. However I have just bought some wide leg jeans which look good with a fitted top and the blazer and chunky trainers but oddly I can't make them go with any of my boots.

Loving the idea of a tweed blazer!
What sort of boot are 'in? I picked black boots to blend into black tights as my legs are quite short.

What about accessories? I have a necklace that I never take off, but wouldn't mind jazzing everywhere else up!
