Do you have my hair? How do I look after it and what styles would work?

Thread title says it all really.

this is my hair, air dried. I’ve just started using sulfate free shampoo which has improved the condition a bit but it’s still quite frizzy. It’s very thick and dry. I’d love for it to be soft and shiny but this has never happened!

Im also getting it cut in a salon for the first time in years so if anyone has any suggestions for a good cut that would be great.

Curly girl method would be great? Worth a goggle if you’ve not looked into it.

I think it’s curlier than you think it is. I’d try scrunching some cantu custard into it and letting it air dry and see what curls you get. Brush less. Only when it’s wet to detangle.

I’ve been watching videos from this account and there’s some great tips here -

Oh it won’t load. But there are tons of curly hair videos on there with tips.

Not a dramatic transformation but this is mine pre & 1 day post starting curly girl, can’t wait to see what it’s like weeks down the line 😊

That is pretty much how my hair is. It had all the charm of a Brillo pad until I went Curly Girl and now only use silicone free conditioner to wash and condition ( I use Faith in nature) , plus Only Curls’ curl gel. My hair looks much healthier and shinier and gets less frizzy on rainy days

yup it will look fabulous with way more conditioner, way less shampoo, some curl cream and scrunching.
i use plain old shampoo (share with dh cheap stuff) once a week, then DIVA CURL conditioner leave it in, don't rinse fully out, towel dry a bit, then 1-2 pumps of DIVA CURL curl cream, scrunch and done.

Your hair's lovely OP and I do think there's some shine in there. I'd try some curl creme in the ends (or frizz ease serum, or a hair oil, whichever suits). My hair is always a bit frizzy if I let it air dry and looks much better if I blowdry it- If you go down that route I'd try a diffuser attachment to make the most of your lovely curls.

Olaplex no 6 might be worth a go. It takes mine from a bit kinky to proper waves without weighing it down.

TiredOutMumma · 16/10/2022 21:41

It's curly! You probably don't realise!

Brush it with a wide tooth comb in the shower whilst using your conditioner. Then don't brush it again! Apply Boots curl cream to wet hair, scrunch and keep scrunching, and towel scrunch. Use a diffuser if you have one.

Let us see the photos after you've tried this!

Thank you! Some really good tips -
I have heard of curly girl but I thought it sounded like loads of faff…maybe I need to just bite the bullet?

I had beautiful ringlets as a small child but as I got more/heavier hair they just kind of got dragged out. I have never known how to style it and basically just brush and straighten the hell out of it.

Just switching to the No sulfate shampoo (I found cantu in boots but other recommendations welcome) has already improved the condition of it a lot.

…meant to say I’ll give curly girl a try and update with some after pics.

I have almost identical hair OP and couldn't be arsed with curly girl, plus sometimes want it straight which is a no no with that method.

I use olaplex and an air wrap to dry it nicely, either smooth or curly. Then sometimes straighten with ghds and lots of heat protection
