At home gel manicures

I’m currently using the Mylee LED lamp, their own brand colours and their gel builder.

They don’t chip at all which is great. The formula is thicker than any other gel I’ve used so very thin coats aren’t really doable, so I’m guessing that’s why it doesn’t chip? But they DO lift, almost like acrylics after a few weeks?

Im buffing the nail pretty well and using the correct base coat, any ideas why I’m getting lift? I enjoy doing my own nails and the outlay for all the stuff is about the same for 2-3 trips to the salon so I’d really like to make it work, it’s so much cheaper.

Thanks!

Oh I should add I’m getting lift within a day or two

are you pushing back the cuticle? I’ve found this helps as I’m able to buff further down but tbh I can never get them to last as long as salon nails unfortunately. Like you say they start lifting at the bottom then I can’t resist picking at them

I'm a former nail tech. Are you using a dehydrator before your base coat?

TerfQueen · 16/10/2022 14:56

Yes exactly this lol! They lift and at first I gently buff them smooth and repaint a little but it happens again and I peel them off 🤣

Cuticles are as far back as I can get them but I’ll try some cuticle oil tonight and see if I can get them gone entirely

Lifting at the cuticle is usually due to skin cells on the nail plate. Make sure you're buffing the natural nail so the shine has gone. Apply a dehydrator which gets rid of oils and moisture. Wait for that to dry and then go in with base coat. Don't allow any product to touch the cuticle or it will lift. Make sure the free edge is capped.
It's not really about how far back you get the cuticle, it's about the nail plate being free of skin and oil.

Is the mylee prep and polish a dehydrator? (Sorry just hijacking the thread!)

No it's a sanitiser

Ah okay that just be what I’m missing then!

Must be*

I was bought a kit, I never got used to it, my gels always perked. Think I was too heavy with coats. I have no patience to do it myself sadly

Thank you!!!! I’ve just sat and done them tonight and didn’t get up to the cuticle like I usually do and after using the dehydrator and I can tell already it’s much much better! Life saver, really appreciate you posting you’ve saved my at home manicures 🤣🤣🤣
