Trouser help for a size 16

Having read the thread about what outfits make you feel good, it got me wondering about trousers.
I tend to live in jeans come Autumn and Winter, wearing Next straight leg at the moment, which are ok.
on the thread there are several posters talking about wide leg jersey trousers, M&S with stripes, I’m not that brave 😂
It got me thinking about different shapes.
Im 5ft 4 and a size 16, used to be pear shaped but along came the menopause.
Is it doable to wear wide leg trousers without me looking like a clown or would I be better with straight leg ones.
I seem to have lost my way over the last few years with clothes.
In my head I’d love to wear some black wide ones with a black roll neck jumper but I’m worried the reality would be clown eats the Black Magic chocolate man.
Online shopping only as my nearest town is absolutely dire.
Any help gratefully received
Thanks 🙏

I'm a bit shorter than you and have always avoided wide legged trousers on the grounds they don't suit me. I stick to straight legged.

Similar shape, size 14 and 5ft 5, and I have lived in my hush jersey harem pants for the last 3 years. So flattering, so comfortable and sort of smart. (Depends on your job)

Thanks everyone 😊
I’ve been having a bit of a sort out of clothes today, I found a pair of Next black bootcut jeans, I can’t remember when I bought them but they look new, a size 14 and they fit .
I’m going to order some straight leg trousers and some different tops to try.

I have a tip from a stylist, it doesn't matter what you wear on your bottom half of you as long as you draw the attention up so we're talking jewellery, interesting neckline or print. It sounds weird but it works

I believe that everyone should wear what they genuinely like, preferably what they love. When we wear something we love, we feel good. So I’m not a fan of saying what we should and shouldn’t wear. That said, as a size 16, 5’6” woman, I have avoided wearing wide leg pants because I felt they would make my bottom half look shapelessly wide and I wouldn’t love them. Interestingly though, I just bought a wide leg jump suit from Thought. I wore it yesterday, loved it and felt I looked good in it!
