Skin care help

Can anyone help me sort out my skin? I'm only 47, but I feel like I look 57, the skin on my chin is awful and bags under my eyes are huge. It's been in a downwood spiral since loosing my Mum a few years ago, where I neglected myself to look after her. I just have no confidence when talking to people anymore because of it.
Do I need certain products or a certain foundation? Thank you

You sounds like you've had a really rough time recently, so sorry about your mum 💐

Drink lots of water, get out every day for fresh air and lots of fruit and veg will do more than creams.

Hello!

You just need to start with a basic, but regular skin care routine and you will notice a difference very quickly.
Make it some time for you each morning & evening.

Also up your water intake.

This is a great book to get, will teach you all you need to know, and will tell you what not to bother with.

Thank you, i will look into the book.
I'm vegetarian anyway, so eat lots of fruit and veg, probably do need to up my intake of water though.

I also need a hair cut dd trying to convince me to grow it long, but I think that ages me.

I don't think the texture of your skin is bad at all, it's not got big pores or pigmentation. Looks fresh and clear.

Microneedling might improve the texture on the chin, is that from acne scarring?

It's hard when your face starts to sag at about this age. I think firstly it's important to recognise you don't stare at people the way you are doing here, or when you catch your reflection, your face is animated. A smile makes a big difference and lifts the whole face upwards. Blusher does the same applied on the sides of the face (not the apples of the cheek). Applying mascara to the outer lashes only is another trick.

Losing weight makes the sagging worse for me, I have to make sure I don't get too thin (I watch my weight for health reasons but can go too far).

I always recommend a Dermatica subscription, for longer term skin maintenance.

Firstly, I think you have lovely clear skin.

I suffer from ‘orange peel chin’ and I have a combo of Botox and a little filler which smooths it out wonderfully. You’d also benefit from some Botox between your brows, if you want to go that route.

Otherwise a basic skin care routine including vitamin c, a retinol and hydration.

KalaniM · 15/10/2022 14:27

Actually you have nice skin. You could start by wearing frownies at night when you go to bed.
a nice thing to do is facial lymphatic drainage, you can learn the directions for clearing lymph easily from YT tutorials. Lightly tapping with the fingertips in the right directions works wonders. It may take a week or two for you to begin to see the results. It will clear puffiness and stimulate blood flow.

Aginplease · 15/10/2022 15:13

Thank you everyone, you are all very kind.
That's exactly how I would describe my skin, as orange peel.
I'll read all your comments properly and make notes.

I would buy a few key skincare items...

Morning:
cleanse (loads of options, try cerave hydrating cleanser)
Vitamin c (I use medik8 c-tetra luxe)
Moisturise (loads of options here, recommend Clinique moisture surge)

Evening:
Cleanse twice (recommend Elemis cleansing balm plus morning cleanser)
Add in some sort of oil or serum (like Estée Lauder advanced night repair)

There's more you could do skin wise but I don't want to overwhelm. Just feeling like you have a basic skincare regime in place may help you feel better

anonbelle · 16/10/2022 02:14

I'm a spa therapist and trained in all different types of facials. If I could recommend anything skin care wise it would be anything with PRO COLLAGEN in it. It helps fight ageing. Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream, is an excellent moisturiser for anti ageing. Expensive but WORTH IT! I've seen some amazing results from my clients using the Elemis Pro Collagen skin care line.

If you don't feel as though skin care is helping, maybe botox 🤷🏽‍♀️ it's not for everyone though.

PAFMO · 16/10/2022 13:16

Start by watching some Nadine Baggott videos, especially the 5 ingredients one. It's a game changer.

Skin needs:AM
A cleanser (can be as cheap as you like)
A vitamin C (about 15% L-Ascorbic acid is the best type)
Hydration (can also be as cheap as you like- moisturizer is there to moisturize, it doesn't need to do anything else)
Sunscreen- always, and always separate to moisturizer

PM
A cleanser
A retinol - start slowly with an entry level one
Hydration.

Just with vitamin C and the retinol you'll see a difference.
