Brazilian keratin hair straightening

Has anyone had this done before? I'm thinking of getting it done and have been reading up on it but still have some questions. Can anyone advise?

It says you need to not wash your hair for 4 days afterwards so it can properly set. 4 days, really? My hair will look a scraggly mess after 4 days with menopause flushes and going out in the wind, I wouldn't want it to set like a birds nest.

It says to only wash hair with sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner afterwards. I was looking in boots this week and literally all of them had sulphate in the ingredients. Any suggestion of what to use?

I am swimming a few times per week and using a sauna. Will the pool chlorine, or the sweat from my head, affect it?

I first had it done professionally for about £180, hair was lovely and shiny, felt very greasy for a while afterwards as they used far too much product. I have used home kits, same results, and can top up as I like. I treat my hair every three months as I don't use sls free shampoo/conditioner as my hair hates it. Costs me about £30 a year doing it myself.

Kerikit is the best but I don't think you can buy it online anymore. I am currently using brazillian straght, but chocococo is very good too but the fumes are very strong and can make your eyes red and sting if the fumes get in them.

Also yes you absolutely do need to leave it in for three/four days, maybe just do it over a weekend? Dont use a hair tie as that will set kinks in your hair, use a claw clip or one of those telephone curly wire hairbands if you absolutely must tie it back. Also you cant use GHDs as they dont get to the required heat level required to seal in the product. if your hair gets kinks/waves during the four days you need to straighten it to set the product again. I HTHs!

Thanks pseudo, so if you use a regular shampoo it doesn't just strip away the keratin in one wash?
Would love to know the product you use at home too, that's significantly cheaper! The prices I saw were around £200 in a salon, same as the one you had.

I have Keratin treatments. You can’t wash your hair for two days. Never had one where you have to leave it for four. Went to the hairdressers for years but it’s expensive. Since lockdown one I have been using a home treatment. It’s called ANSWR. Was previously branded as O Wow. Far cheaper and just as good results .

SLS products wont wash it out in one go, no. Basically the brazillian blowdry treatment coats your hair with a plastic like coating whic stops frizz and flattens the hairshaft to leave it shiny and smooth. Washing with SLS free products extend the treatment for sure as it takes longer to break down the product.

I top mine up every 3 months, when my hair starts to show signs of needing a refresh. I wash my hair every 2/3 days with purple shampoo, kerastase conditioner and weekly PK elasticizer treatment.

I use Kativa home kit on my extremely curly hair and it leaves it straight for around 3-4 months when I can get away with just topping up the roots. It’s only about £11 on Amazon and the kit lasts me for 2 treatments, although my hair is thin and fine.

I get a special herbal shampoo on Amazon too as I also struggled to find a sulphate free one.

2 days is plenty without washing your hair. Chlorine will strip it more quickly so maybe use a swimming cap.

Thanks everyone, sounds very easy and cheap to do at home. I didn't realise that was possible. I'm glad I found this out before going to an expensive hairdresser!

I've had it done twice. You should use SLS and sodium free products. I wouldn't do it again, my hair was left greasy with zero volume.

I had them when my hair was long. Most high street brands do a sulphate free shampoo; OGX definitely do and you can get this in Boots/Superdrug.

I had a couple that had to be left 3 days and 1 that you could wash the day after, I didn’t think it was as effective though. I wouldn’t swim/sauna for the first week or so either.
