Style continuity - mum life

So, I feel like I’m re-finding my style - back to work with two young children and my work wardrobe feels good… but could do with some advice on my wardrobe when not at work. Have lovely wool coat, merino knots, etc. but they just don’t seem practical when I have little peeps climbing up me in muddy shoes! Any suggestions for some key autumn/winter pieces for mum life?

What's style continuity?

Chuck on midi dress with boots and tights

Jeans a long sleeved t shirt

Mini skirt and tights and long sleeved top

At home joggers and a long sleeved T-shirt.

For a nice event add a cashmere jumper.

Everything to easy to wash and dry. Nothing is too precious.

Thanks @mrsjimhopper - sorry if thread name was ambiguous/hard to interpret… what I meant was that I’m unsure as to how to work nice workwear pieces into my non-work (i.e. crawling/running around after kids) life. I seem to be able to look stylish at work (so I’m told 🙈) but feel a bit hopeless outside work, IYSWIM. Thank you!

I take when you say OP about muddy children climbing on you, you mean they are young enough they need to be carried? So you get muddy feet on you?

I agree with @mrsjimhopper who has a great user name, don't keep anything for best just wear what you have but adapt it a little.

My youngest is now 6 so nearly out of the carrying stage but what saved me from having to constantly wash everything was a long puffer coat that way if you carried a child with muddy boots on the jacket got muddy, then I'd wash it off with a damp cloth and occasionally wash the whole jacket.

I would say with you merino knits you just need so jeans, and nice joggers. A long puffer or parka and chunky boots/trainers for the summer.

Also I have taught all my children as they get older to not wipe their hands on their or my clothes and if they drop something on their clothes to soak the stain as soon as possible. They can and do still get messy but it gives them a little respect for their's and others clothing.

@Sickoffamilydrama thank you!

I have a totally separate work work wardrobe of about 8 outfits (work four day).

Then I have home clothes which are basically stretchy harems and long sleeved tees and sweats or denim shorts m and t shirts in the summer these can be chucked in and washed easily. I've started to invest in some nicer ones of these so I can go out and about shops etc

Finally a day to day and going out jeans, midis skirts etc.

I do get changed when I get in.

I know exactly what you mean. I have a 3yo, and often have to pick them up after a playground tumble/bout of tiredness.

I think the key is opting for stuff you can wash frequently and easily. Bottoms, I usually have jeans. I currently love cords too, and wide jersey trousers. For tops, I usually layer as the weather on the playground/outdoors is changeable. Usually a t-shirt under a cotton jumper. Cotton is treat for jumpers because it can be chucked into a washing machine at 40 degrees without much worry. I picked up some last year from TK maxx and went for textured tops with interesting sleeves or necklines just to add a bit of character

For coats, I actually think leather jackets are amazing for this weather. You can wipe dirt off, and cropped length means the muddy feet don't actually reach the coat. I also have a short wool jacket I wear a lot and her feet have never reached the actual coat bit so it's stayed intact. Also cropped jackets look great with slightly wider trousers
