CC or BB cream? Cruelty free please...

What light coverage BB/CC cream are you using in your 40's/50's?
I used to like Olay Total Effects but have been avoiding anything associated with animal testing over the last few years.
Although I have the usual (I think?) signs of aging, I'm also prone to hormonal breakouts (how is that fair, eh?🙄).
Love to hear your recommendation (& what to avoid!)

I’m early 40s and started using Garnier BB cream after seeing it recommended. I love it! Cruelty free too.

I thought REN and Benefit were really good, then I tried Trinny London and found it’s the bees knees. Really excellent!

Turnaroundandigone · 15/10/2022 12:02

Erborian is brilliant

EthelMcUnready · 15/10/2022 16:45

It's brilliant that Garnier is cruelty free now! Affordable option!
Thank you 😊

I was thinking of trying the Trinny London one but it had mixed reviews and for the price I was a bit nervous of trying it... Also the process of choosing your shade seemed a bit complicated!
Did you buy online or in a store (re. Choosing the right shade...)?
Thank you for your recommendation

Cruelty free I've found boots no 7 BB cream good , some of the brands mentioned are not cruelty free

HumourReplacementTherapy · 15/10/2022 16:59

The TL one is great for summer but not quite enough coverage (for me) at this time of year. The TL foundation is nice but it's expensive as ideally I'd wear both the bff & just a touch foundation.
Garnier goes a bit orange on me but I might try the lightest shade to see if it's any better.

Can someone explain the difference between bb and cc?

I use bare minerals Complexion Rescue tinted moisturizer and am very happy with it. Completely cruelty free and also free of nasty chemicals.

It has hyaluronic acid and mineral SPF 30. Really evens out my complexion without being heavy. It doesn’t settle in fine lines, nor does it cause that dry, caked look. And it hasn’t caused breakouts either.

It’s a bit pricey, but lasts a while and they also have fairly frequent sales. I first bought a travel size to make sure I like it.

Sea Magik. Got the BB cream in a Holland & Barrett advent calendar a couple of years ago and went on to buy regularly. I dont use the CC cream as much but always buy a few sample sizes when I buy the BB.

Erborian CC cream is my holy grail. It's all I wear

I bought online. I found their shade selection thingy pretty good. You put in your hair and eye colour, then your skin tone. I find it looks so natural and does not sit in pores or lines.

Mellowday · 15/10/2022 21:26

I really rate the trinny one .

lindyloo57 · 15/10/2022 21:31

I like the Eborian cc cream, but I do have to by the two colours and mix them, I did try the bb cream from them but found it very thick more like a foundation, I tried the bm complexion rescue but it wasn't enough coverage for me.

Honeyroar · 15/10/2022 21:42

I didn’t realise Garnier was cruelty free. That’s really good news.

I used to love Bare Minerals, but their parent company isn’t cruelty free, so it puts me off, and Boots doesn’t get leaping bunny status, so that puts me off.

mnahmnah · 15/10/2022 23:20

@Honeyroar

Not sure all Garnier is, but the BB cream is

HidingFromDD · 15/10/2022 23:23

Erborian. Bb cream is thicker but now I’ve hit late 50s (and post pandemic when I didn’t use anything) find the cc better as it doesn’t settle in any wrinkles

Oh no, I didn’t realize that, thanks for pointing it out. Just checked and apparently BM have been bought by shiseido. : ( I guess I’ll be keeping an eye on this thread.

Re. Leaping Bunny certification, too many companies are dodgy. I thought Essie was finally cruelty free because they announced it, but i read they still don’t have certification and their status was unclear. So I contacted them and asked if - and when - they’d be certified. 2 emails, and they just replied with the usual bla bla, without answering my question. I sent a more pointed email and never received a reply. I think they are full of it and won’t buy their nail varnish.
