Hair help going grey

Right - I'm dark but I'm going grey . I'm gonna upload a photo of my hair as it is - and then one as I'd like - I'd like to know if this is feasible because I'm sick of dark roots with grey .
This is as it is now ....next is how I'd like to try and blend the grey

What I'd like

I know this will never suit my skin tone but it's happening anyway so thought dark blended with grey ? Or could just go grey grey like second pic ?

I've always had dark hair but blonde highlights- but now it just looks trailer trash - grey and dark roots - not a great look !

Definitely go with more high/low lights in the first picture.

I wouldn’t call your hair ‘dark’ is it a lot darker than the picture? I asked because I have almost black hair, naturally. Though at Christmas I had a bleach bath to lighten it a bit to dye it a plum colour.

I am asking because I am growing out my hair and spoke to my hair dresser about doing similar to your 2nd and 3rd picture.

My hairdresser, who I started going to in February, said that achieving those sorts of colours is difficult. I would need alot of bleach to get the ends light enough and (can’t remember if it was toner or dye) to get the grey effect. Which apparently doesn’t last long and is alot of upkeep.

So I have gone for what I saw call ‘grombre’ basically growing it out. I am glad I did. My hair is in great condition and even have new growth. I am 4 months in and got through the worst. Wish is had never started covering it up as I thinking growing it out would have been better when I had less grey.

Naturally it's a lot darker - I've had blonde highlights for years so it does look lighter than the roots .

I agree with the poster who said it would be a lot of upkeep once you get it light enough to go grey.
I have balayage to keep on top of my grey's.
Medium brown roots and blonde streaks half way down, I touch up my roots myself every two weeks using Root Touch Up from Boots or Superdrug

It’s going to take quite a bit of lightening. Lots of toner/dye to keep the grey (at least every 4 weeks) and if you don’t want the dark roots the will need lightening every few weeks as well. Or you will have very light/grey ends and dark roots.

You could have a root smudge (I think it’s called that) so the roots look darker on purpose. But then those bits would need lightening as the grow down.

I spent a lot of time looking into how to get to my natural grey without just waiting for it to grow out. But 8 didn’t find one. Every other option was high maintenance or risked a lot of damage or both.

I have dark hair and got a taste of how grey/white my actual hair colour is in lockdown. I regret getting it coloured again so my hairdresser suggested the partial lowlights route where some strands are coloured brown some left grey so soften the badger affect. I’m only a few weeks in but as far as I am concerned although it may be a bit less stark than if I was leaving it completely it’s still very obviously growing out and badger looking. I think since I still have to have it done at £50 odd pounds every 6 weeks it’s not worth it.
I have been looking into getting it stripped of colour and my question to the previous OP is if your hair is grey naturally why would it be a lot of upkeep to have it looking like the pictures up thread?
Has anyone done this ? My hair is in excellent condition so I feel like it could maybe take being stripped versus waiting what would be at least 18 months of growing out 😣 however I’ve never done anything like that eg bleaching and am generally Unknowledgeable about the subject

My cousin has black hair and her greys look like silver threads.
