Ant recommendations for a simple skincare routine/ products? I've always had dry skin so have no clue!

Tea Tree products if its mild , teatree is a natural antiseptic

if its acne then a GP visit might be in order rather than irritating his skin with harsher and harsher remedies .

My DS uses tea tree cleansing pads (Boots) at night and either Carbon Theory bar or The Inky List Salacyclic wash in the shower .
Then a mild moisturiser , i think Bulldog at the moment

REN clear calm spot treatment - not cheap but lasts ages and is gentle but effective

Sebamed is quite good, you can use it as body wash as well, Ten O Six lotion as well but I don’t know if you can still get it over the counter, you may be able to get it from Amazon.

My teen uses nip tuck for teenage skin. That worked well

HappyRhino · 12/10/2022 20:58

My teens use Cerave. They’ve just started doing an anti blemish cleanser and which my teens use and I use the hydrating cleanser. We all use the moisturiser. It’s about £15 a bottle but often on 3 for 2 in boots.

Placemarking for a weekend shop for my DS

My teens use Cerave.
My 14 year old does too

For spots/oil get a wash with salicylic acid (cerave, revolution, la Roche possay all do then plus many more). Have a look on Caroline Hirons website too for tips. Avoid astringent, clean and clear type things, not helpful. He will probably need an exfoliation too (not a scrub), look up glycolic acid and niacinamide...The Ordinary are very affordable options for this... as well as a non pore clogging (non comedogenic) moisturiser plus a bit of consistency and patience! Good luck

Some great recommendations, thank you all. He's only 14 and just a few spots here and there at the moment, but hoping to prevent it getting worse!

Acnecide spot cream will sort out the occasional spot

ColeensBoot · 12/10/2022 23:22

Blue light led gadget would help his skin

formulatingAresponse · 13/10/2022 00:25

Cerave SA with a flannel during his daily shower

MrsSkylerWhite · 13/10/2022 00:29

Acnicide wash and gel.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 13/10/2022 00:32

Does he actually wash his face with a wash cloth? I only ask as ds was just standing in the shower and splashing water on his face , when he used a wash cloth it made a huge difference and that's all he needed.

TheOnlyBeeInYourBonnet · 13/10/2022 00:59

Frequent hand washing, avoiding touching face, frequent pillowcase changing, keeping hair off face.

All these things will help more than skincare IME.

My DS2's dermatologist also suggested a link between acne and dairy. He sees a lot of teenage boys getting breakouts after starting whey based protein shakes.
