Q about selling things on Vinted.

I’ve posted a few things on Vinted. No ne gas offered to buy them yet, but I’m wondering if I’m doing something wrong. It’s been a week, not sure if that is noticeable nothing?

Lots of people have added my items as a “favourite”. Does that mean they are watching it or something? I’m used to selling on eBay.

I sent them the auto messages e.g. Hi, do you want more info? But no responses.

And with that in mind, am I buying wrong? I see something I like, and I just buy it.

Sorry about the typos. Sausage fingers on phone.

I’ve been in the same boat but have stood fast and my items have sold eventually. Offering a discount for selling as a bundle helps. Have a look around for similar items and see if your pricing is realistic. Loads of people save items as favourites, I don’t think there’s much point messaging them directly unless you want to offer them a deal to shift something quickly. Patience is key.

I just put some stuff on for the first time yesterday, About half of it has sold. It might depend on what you are selling - my wintery stuff has sold, summery stuff has not (unsurprisingly).

FusionChefGeoff · 12/10/2022 11:15

I think if people are favouriting then it's a good sign. Depends on how desperate you are for the cash / space. After a couple of weeks you could reduce the price if still not sold.

Sometimes I haggle on Vinted - sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't!

QAboutThings · 12/10/2022 11:23

I favourite lots of things and get a little annoyed when people then send me messages! When I first started selling I put some stuff on really cheaply to build my feedback up so that might be worth doing?

Blossomandbee · 12/10/2022 11:32

Yes favouriting items is the same as watching them on eBay. I wouldn't message people who have favourited your items, most people don't and I find it annoying when they do.
I would say unless the price is too high then just wait it out. If you want a quick sale then reduce the price. I've sold quite a few bits and they do tend to sell eventually.

NisekoWhistler · 12/10/2022 11:37

It seems the key is listing every day. I know that seems a bind but it does work.

I sold 15 items last week.

Also having followers helps, here is my username: discodi I'll follow you back.

Hi OP

I've been on selling since April and while I'm very chuffed with the £250 I've made I know I could have made more if ...

  1. I price dirt cheap. I won't though as my stuffs in great condition so I'll sell a dress for say, £4. They do sell eventually and if I get a polite and sensible offer for £3 I tend to happily accept. Also my drop off to post is about a 20 minute walk away so I can't be arsed to sell lower than £2 as it's not worth my time. I have generous bundle discounts on all the time.
  1. I purchased a printer. That way I could do cheaper shipping however I decided the cost would take too long to recoup.

I find my sales go like buses - nothing for several weeks then 2/3 every week Confused

Getting involved with forum chats helps get you out there, I don't mind participating in "follow for follow " as that's a quick way to share the love but "likes for likes" is too time consuming and I've had several members publicly get the arse with me on forums stating "I've liked 13 of your items and you have only done 12 of mine, please do another or I'll remove mine" Confused I mean, get a grip!

Hashtags on all your listings help.

Oh and weirdly only one of my 20+ sales had been favourited first! When I started I did drop people a short message to those who favourited along the lines of "thanks for looking at my things please message me with any questions " so not intrusive but didn't have any responses. Fair enough as I know this has a mixed reception but seeing as it's never generated a sale I don't bother now.
99% of my buyers didn't haggle me down either!

I give an item a couple of months then relist , if it doesn't then sell I just charity it.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 12/10/2022 11:54

Also I often relist items as a ready made bundle too which is sometimes successful

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 12/10/2022 11:55

DHs football shirts sold in minutes ... I reckon people buy these to sell on again so DO NOT price these too low Confused

sandytooth · 12/10/2022 12:06

Don't message its really annoying

Gr33ngr33ngr4ss · 12/10/2022 13:06

Are your photos decent?

I buy a lot and have just sold a few things that went in hours of listing and I find good photos make a difference. As does good listing info. Describe it properly. Show photos of the label the front, the back and not in a muddled, blurry photo.

NisekoWhistler · 12/10/2022 13:11

If the person from Belfast who started following me is from this thread it says you're on holiday so all listings are hidden, is that you OP?

RoseValleyRambles · 12/10/2022 13:15

Pierce sensible, offer bundle discounts, and then just be patient. I found womenswear doesn't go as fast as kids/maternity unless it's statement pieces. these will hopefully go with a few more bland items as a bundle of you price the bland ones well.

RoseValleyRambles · 12/10/2022 13:16

*price sensible

ABrotherWhoLooksLikeHellMugYou · 12/10/2022 13:41

I have some high end high street office wear/wedding guest type dresses to sell. Would Vinted be better than Ebay? I don't want to start a side hustle, just make back some of the costs so I'm not keen to have to put in a lot of ground work if that's a necessity to sell anything

Yes, agree with this.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 12/10/2022 14:51

Just to add Measurements really help buyers, especially lengths of trousers for petite or tall lengths

Metabigot · 12/10/2022 15:38

I'm also wondering if Vinted is better than ebay. I sell other bits and bobs on ebay so have good feedback. Also it's a lot more familiar to people. It used to be OK to sell clothes on before but not sure if it's had it's day?

ChilliBandit · 12/10/2022 15:40

Allowing bundles is definitely key. If I see something I like I then look to see if I can bundle otherwise the postage costs more than the item half the time.

Qwerkie · 12/10/2022 15:40

I favourite things if I like it but I’m not sure I want to pay full price. If I get a message saying ask me any questions I don’t respond. If I get a message with a reduction I’ll probably buy it
