We're going to be hiking, hiring a car, and staying in a town. (rhodes)
It's cool at night (14)and mid 20's in the day.
Thinking of packing:
Wearing: checked trousers, black polo tshirt, black thin jumper,Walking boots.

Holdall under plane seat: bikini x2, shorts x2, socks x1, sandals, vest tshirt x2, normal tshirt, thin midi dress and cardigan, towel,
Does that sound enough?

Yes, pack one of the really thin towels you can wear as a sarong / beach throw on. Also long sleeved top, layers will be your friend. Maybe a waterproof?

I'd add another dress and don't forget makeup /cosmetics and hair dryer. A book or kindle? I always travel with hand luggage and carry similar but not sure I'd manage it with under seat bag!

littlefireseverywhere · 10/10/2022 22:42

I did the bag a couple of weeks ago to Mallorca for a weekend. I forgot I needed to pack books etc.

littlefireseverywhere · 10/10/2022 22:43

Could you share the cost of a carry on bag or hold luggage?

Two socks, a wash and a wear. Three knickers (wash, wear, spare). I'd wear the cardigan over my jumper on the plane and add a second dress to hand luggage.

I've got a kindle and phone. Another dress good idea. Or possibly a skirt as it can go with the tshirts and thin jumper. Plan to get toiletries there. Will look for a thin towel

I'm with Squirrelvillage on this. Defo two pairs of socks if you are walking, and the three knickers thing, actually, you can get away with two pairs (plus the one you are wearing) and washing them. Decathlon do cheap ultralight travel towels, and personally I would go for the absolutely smallest - often places you stay have towels, and even if they don't you can dry yourself after a shower on hand-towel satisfactorily. Similarly any toiletries - if where you are going has them, take almost none. I would take deodorant and toothpaste and a toothbrush, and anti-mos stuff if relevant. Only you will know how many shorts / t-shirts / dresses you can get away with, but I'd be doing 1 x swimwear (but that is only because my swimming costume is the heaviest thing in my pack). I also go trainers or trail shoes rather than walking boots but it depends on the terrain you are walking in. Unless the forecast is bad, I'd chance rain in Rhodes and would not bother with a pac a mac, but these do help if you are a bit chilled at night (not a glamourous look though !). 20l or 30l rucksack is your friend under the seat, and it should be 2/3rds full only as it will "become full" despite your best intentions. My luxury on super-light travel is full noise cancelling earphones. So bulky but hate the flight without them. I travel super-light all of the time, and love that I can just walk out of the airport without all the waiting round and my backpack is fine to carry around for a whole day if I need to. Good luck, and have a great time. x

Put more socks & knickers inside the walking/hiking boots, I ditch one pair of shorts as you have checked trousers and take instead more socks & pants

base it on two outfits for hiking, and two outfits for other times with one spare. One evening outfit

wear your cardigan for the evening on the plane

you can get microfibres pack small towels, not only are they small they dry quickly

tbh I packed for a week in USA three times using hand luggage only, the cabin bags have a lit of space - especially if you don’t take toiletries

The beauty of this is the speed when arriving the other end. If you can get a taxi quickly, you might even be in your Rhodes Town accommodation while your fellow passengers are hanging round the conveyer for their checked baggage.

A lot depends on personal style here too. Personally, I would travel in leggings or a thin dress; they take up less room than the trousers when packed which would give you more options for the return flight.

I would reduce bikinis to just one, and forgo the socks, wear walking sandals for the flight and leave the boots at home. If you do decide to take the boots though, the freebie shower caps they give you in hotels are great for packing footwear!

Dresses are really versatile because they are a complete outfit in one. Knickers, l would increase from the suggested 3 to say 5, unless you are comfortable knicker free in a summer dress. And if you wear a bra, pack at least one.

A cheap beach towel can be picked up locally for around €6.

Add a handful of clothes pegs and one of those stretchy clothes line things and ensure you have fabrics that will dry quickly, cotton is not always the holy grail.

Finally, remember your liquids rule for the airport and remember that you are going to a place where most things can be sourced locally.

Really good tips here. I don't have any walking sandals but am going to take a quick look on amazon prime

I would take one warm jumper/cardigan as the evenings will get chilly. Or a wrap which can go over other layers.

Agree with walking sandals rather than boots. But take plasters if they are new.

Skirt sounds like a good idea.

Small amount of jewellery means you can feel dressed up even in casual clothes. Wouldn’t bother with hairdryer but I have thin straight hair so…

Do you really need a towel? Won’t it be provided where you are staying? That would save a lot of space.

Chargers and adaptor plugs. Basic medical kit (nurofen plasters antihistamine). Sunglasses.

Knickers take no space and can go inside shoes etc so I’d push the boat out and take enough for the week!!

Don't forget your chargers and an adapter.

Thighdentitycrisis · 11/10/2022 18:28

Wear as many clothes as possible on the plane. I always look really padded and wear my walking boots.
