Help, dry but spotty patches on face

I have two areas of skin on my face where I seem to get little break outs of spots but are also quite dry. They've been there for months but don't seem to go away or spread particularly. I've always had reasonably good skin and don't have much of a skin care routine. I don't know if I should be moisturising more or something else?? Should I use some specific cleanser? I don't regularly wear make up if that matters...

Blurry photo attached if anyone has any pointers! (Posting in this forum as it's more a bit unsightly, not causing me any health issues)

How is your diet and your stress levels? Do you drink plenty of water? Things that appear like that and don't go away over time are usually related to something internal that's going on. It could be a vitamin deficiency, or candidia/a fungal overgrowth that your body isn't clearing on it's own.

Hi tbh it doesn’t look too bad. Although I suspect you are probably self conscious. How old are you OP? As it could be a hormonal breakout.
How often do you exfoliate? And cleanse and tone ?

I'm 36, and I am pregnant...so to be honest it may well be that but it was there for quite a while before I got pregnant. Perhaps the hormones and fatigue not helping. Diet is okay, drink tonnes of water but am pretty tired. So, I don't exfoliate, cleanse or tone!! I literally wash my face with a very basic face wash when I shower and sometimes slap some also pretty basic vit e face cream on some days. Probably only wear make up once a week or so. I just don't really know what I'm doing and am lucky with having quite problem free skin, so don't know where to start.

That looks a bit like perioral dermatitis. Have a look at some pictures online and see if you think it could be that.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 09/10/2022 11:05

Looks like eczema. Use a medicated cream. The less you do and the more you leave your skin alone the better.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/10/2022 11:08

I'd use a bit of hydrocortisone cream and when it's cleared up some CeraVe.

dontgobaconmyheart · 09/10/2022 11:24

I think that looks more like eczema/dermatitis than it does breakouts or 'spots' OP.

You could get some low dose hydrocortisone cream if it's pregnancy suitable, or afterwards if not and apply very thinly (avoid lips directly) for a few days and see how it goes, it's available over the counter.

Alternatively I have similar and have sorted it almost entirely by applying some Eucerin 10% urea cream regularly to those patches. I have dry skin and use the 5% urea cream as a face cream anyway but find the 10% great for dry patches and brilliant for winter hands and feet etc.

As an aside, your skin otherwise looks lovely. I'd probably switch the cleanser and moisturiser in case you're reacting to something in them and would make sure to moisturise daily and cleanse properly when you do wear makeup.

Thank you all for the advice, I'll be trying out your suggestions!

They look like water blisters, drink more water and take lysine which is good for membranes.

Ruthietuthie · 11/10/2022 02:12

I know exacctly what that is - perioral dermatitiis. Exactly as you describe, it just hangs around, never seeming to vanish. Little pimples (but not with heads), dry and a bit flaky too, sometimes itchy, and always beginning around the mouth, nose or eyes.
To get rid of mine, I had to get antibiotics and creams from the dermatologist. One thing to say is that GENTLE is better for this - no heavy exfoliating, no rich creams, really treat it gently. But you might need medical help to get it to go away completely.

Pollywoddles · 11/10/2022 02:52

Was going to say perioral dermatitis too. Do not even attempt to put cortisone or hydrocortisone anywhere near it, it will make it much worse. Go to a dermatologist.
I needed a course of antibiotics but the ones I had (oxytetracyckine) can’t be taken in pregnancy.

Pollywoddles · 11/10/2022 02:53

*oxytetracycline

Looks like cold sore to me. See if Zovirax helps
