Foundation goes weird

would love any recommendations for a good not too expensive foundation. I’ve always had super oily skin and got matte foundation with a pretty high coverage to sort that and cover huge pores. Since giving birth a few months ago my skin is really dry but also the foundation just goes patchy and comes straight off it’s really weird. Any recommendations welcome!

I mix mine with moisturiser for this reason. Usually Nivea. The old fashioned blue stuff.

Takes a bit of mixing in your palm but it works well for me.

I do the same with bb cream.

Regarding covering pores you might find a loose powder would work wonders. I use this:

phoeracosmetics.co.uk/products/phoera%C2%AEno-filter-setting-powder

Marvellous stuff. Pores disappear. It's pretty colourless and I just use a Phoera coloured pressed powder on top. For covering blemishes I just use a mineral powder foundation or concealer just in the areas needed - will cover just about anything, quite opaque. You could use it anywhere but I think can result in looking quite flat...but not bad at all in finish. This is the brand I use:

Anywhere - I mean all over the face.

Have you tried Bare Minerals original powder foundation? I found it good, you can build coverage, use it as a concealer (or also get the the concealer) and it was the only foundation that stayed put when my skin was exceptionally oily. It takes a bit of practise to put it on but it didn't take long before I could do it while walking around the house sorting other stuff out.

I saw someone online saying that when this happens it's because your skin is too alkaline or acidic (can't remember which!) and he recommended using a silicone based primer. I've got one from The Ordinary which is great. The Ordinary Primer

DurhamDurham · 08/10/2022 20:10

I'm 52 and a few years ago switched to a Mumsnet recommended primer, Rimmel and a BB cream. Wish I had swapped years ago as my skin looks so much brighter and fresher. Which is no mean feat when you're peri menopausal Grin

sandytooth · 08/10/2022 21:06

Have you tried primers?

Metabigot · 08/10/2022 21:09

I'd also recommend a mattifying primer

If you wanted to ditch the foundation you could go tinted primer plus powder route instead

What primer do you use please @DurhamDurham? I've tried so many and seen either no difference at all, or it just sits in my pores and makes my face look dotty and horrible.

BuffyFanForever · 09/10/2022 19:04

Thanks all! Primer is a great idea will definitely try and few different ones of these. Agree I’m sure my skin has done something strange so it’s time to change it up.

A total change of skin type after pregnancy is pretty unusual AFAIK. On the other hand, skin becoming dry is one of the signs of the thyroid messing about, which is pretty common after pregnancy. Might be worth checking if you have any other symptoms.

Leakingroofagain · 09/10/2022 19:20

Trial the primers. I find many silicon ones pill and all the foundation comes off weirdly. The ordinary one is fab though

SettingPrecedents · 09/10/2022 19:22

Definitely try a primer. Camera Close Up by This Works is my favourite.

Metabigot · 09/10/2022 22:28

I like By Terry Hyaluronic primer which is quite mattifying/absorbant. It's not tinted though. Wonder glow by Charlotte Tilbury is tinted.

I think foundation has become a little dated although many women do still use it.

DurhamDurham · 10/10/2022 00:09

@CanYouFeelMyHeart it's the Rimmel one, it's inexpensive but works really well. Hope it works for you, I usually stock up when it's on offer on Amazon. Live in fear that they'll discontinue it.

Foundation goes weird
TimeforZeroes · 10/10/2022 00:12

When mine did this it turned out to be my primer and face cream were too oily so the makeup was slipping off. I think it was the high SFP.

CanYouFeelMyHeart · 11/10/2022 21:33

Thanks @DurhamDurham I'll give it a shot
