How much would you/did you pay second hand what kind of condition would you expect/get?

Would you recommend them? Thinking ahead to Christmas and want something lovely but not too flashy.

The older one is nicer than the new one. I don't have one, and sort of would like to have one because I think it's a 10/10 looks-wise, but they are quite heavy empty. It's the the Mulberry bag, and very popular.

AuntSalli · 06/10/2022 19:23

I have the mini one as my daily handbag because I don’t carry much around with me but it’s just beautiful makes me smile every time I use it

Sewwhatmrmagpie · 06/10/2022 20:28

I have a newer style one, I love its looks but I don't use it a huge amount - it's quite big for a handbag and heavy as a work bag. I'd think about what you want to use it for before purchasing.

I have a regular size mulberry Alexa too and I use that almost every day, very practical and looks fab, by far my favourite bag I've ever had.

RunnerDown · 06/10/2022 20:37

On the Facebook group Siam on they sell for£300-£400 for one in good condition.
They are very big heavy bags. I’m 5 ft 4 and I sold on the second hand one I bought because it looked too large for me. I prefer the small Bayswater satchel for an everyday bag

PolaDeVeboise · 06/10/2022 20:46

I have a black BW Hombre (black suede with gunmetal hardware) that I'd love to sell, but am not really sure the best way to go about it. It's @ 12 years old.

Covidninjas · 06/10/2022 20:48

Another one for the black hombre!

Lozzybear · 06/10/2022 21:03

I have a very old Bayswater - 13 -14 years I think and it’s definitely not a heavy bag. But mine was a limited edition in silver and is very hard to find.

pumpkinspice31 · 06/10/2022 21:20

Thank you ladies.

So £300 (ish) is good going for preloved then? I've joined some FB groups so will have a good snoop for some bargains.

I'm thinking Bayswater as kids are still quite young so I'm still lugging bits about on days out but past the baby bag stage so will be nice to have something a little more "me" if you know what I mean.

I agree I don't find it heavy but most of Mumsnet seems to disagree. Mine is the old version in oak and I've had it for over 10years. It gets better with age.

totalnamechanger · 07/10/2022 13:03

You’ve probably looked on the Mulberry website’s preloved section- and it may not be the cheapest preloved option- but that’s where I was looking when I considered a Bayswater.

I’m not keen on the look of the less structured Mulberry designs but think the Bayswater is a good one. I’ve seen one being used often and quite casually by a stylish woman in my local coffee shop. Hers is a light grey or beige colour. She’s probably 20 so I do think this design is versatile. I was put off by potential weight, as I carry a laptop a lot.

Magik01 · 07/10/2022 13:20

@pumpkinspice31 I actually have a Bayswater I was planning on selling as it’s just sitting at the top of the waredrobe. What colour were you after? Mine is brown and around 10 years old. PM me if you wanted more details. 😬

DaftWeeBun · 07/10/2022 13:28

Try now first- if you want to carry a lot of stuff around it doesn't really work as a shoulder bag. I bought one to use for work and hardly used it- just really awkward to carry on the crook of my arm but slid off my shoulder. I sold mine for £450.

TattiePants · 07/10/2022 18:01

The type of leather does make a difference to how heavy they are. Years ago I had one in Darwin leather and that was heavy once you put a few things inside. I have 2 now that are a lot lighter but they’ve both sat in their dust bags for ages as I don’t find them very easy to wear ‘hands free’.

TheOpenRoad · 07/10/2022 21:53

I use mine every day for work, I put my laptop and all sorts of things in there. I love it, it's a great bag for the office and the style is iconic. At the weekend I tend to use other bags but mostly because I can't be bothered to unpack all my work stuff

I paid about £600 for mine in excellent condition

pumpkinspice31 · 07/10/2022 22:44

Well, I now own a sparkle tweed Bayswater!

Fell in love as soon as I spotted it on a selling site. Immaculate & around the £350 mark.

Thank you all for your input, it's been really helpful.

Looking forward to it arriving next week.

It sounds wonderful but I've already snapped one up, thank you though. 😀

Great news on your purchase. Which website did you use? I really want an Alexa but worried about it not being real.

Vestiaire Collective. It's worrying buying preloved isn't it. I've bought a few bits off this site over the years & you can pay £15 extra for them to authenticate items.

If you look at Mulberry they currently are collaborating with vestiaire collective too.
