If you had £50 to spend at Liberty

What would you get?

A treat just for you, Not the kids or the house or the Christmas bauble collection 🙂

A candle or anything smelly would be wasted on me at the moment as I have the post covid loss of smell ☹️

There’s not a lot you can get at Liberty for £50! I’d put it towards a bottle of perfume.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 05/10/2022 21:29

Part payment on Aesop Marrakech fragrance or some fabric to make something beautiful.

fallinover · 05/10/2022 21:30

www.libertylondon.com/us/gold-plated-lapis-lazuli-pear-pendant-necklace-000768034.html#pos=10

This looks nice.

I tend to buy fabric, or a water bottle or a pin mouse with that kind of money. I like Liberty's

MovinOnUp · 05/10/2022 21:42

Ooh I like that necklace @fallinover

Fragrance is out I'm afraid as I can't smell anything at the moment after having covid.
I was in store a few weeks ago and tried the new creed ladies fragrance and I couldn't smell a thing!

Didn't have a chance for a proper mooch as I was just in very quickly to grab a birthday present for someone (if only I'd had the voucher then🙂)

Fabric! Won't get much, but maybe a metre or so? Check out the end of lines fabric sale they are usually fab, can make scrunchies etc from it.

RosesAndHellebores · 05/10/2022 22:25

I guess it might stretch to an apron or oven gloves or you could buy a lipstick and hankie.

MovinOnUp · 05/10/2022 22:48

Could actually do with a new lipstick @RosesAndHellebores

Thought I'd look for a nice pen and have ended up with a beginner set and book on calligraphy.

The search isn't over yet.
I rarely treat myself so I'm agonising over it like a twat.

Don't think of it as agonising, think of it as enjoying! Plus writing your Christmas list!!

me (despite what you said!!) I would buy a couple Christmas Decorations. Not the terribly expensive ones, or the weird ones. I have a beautiful one from a few years ago which I love unwrapping each year. I bought my mum one too on our trip to london.

but other than Christmas it would have to be stationery. I can't think there's much else I could get for £50 that I'd want. I don't like the necklace linked above (sorry) I can't use anything with fragrance (so not a candle/room diffuser)...

try to enjoy spending it!

HairyMcLarie · 06/10/2022 06:04

I'd probably just go to the beauty section and pick out an expensive lip balm or handcream if you can't smell. Maybe a Diptique candle which will loon pretty and can be lit when your senses return.

Failing that some liberty branded biscuits or something.

£50 won't touch the sides of anything else in Liberty unfortunately.

LoveLabradors · 06/10/2022 08:25

Can you wait until the sales? I got a stunning Liberty robe in the Orion fabric reduced from £245 to £75 in the summer sale. I’ve had some fab things from the tail end of the sales in Liberty.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 06/10/2022 08:38

I'd buy the jigsaw of the storefront as I do bloody love a jigsaw. That would leave £20 which I'd use for a token item like a keyring

Tibtab · 06/10/2022 08:41

If the voucher doesn’t have an expiry then I would wait for the sale. They knock up to 50% of things! I would probably put it towards a silk scarf but I love their scarf hall!

Pinkittens · 06/10/2022 10:05

A square of fabric which will be so precious/expensive I'll just look at it forever rather than dare to cut into it Smile

What do you do with the jigsaws once completed though? I enjoy helping the kids with theirs but my MIL does 1000 piece ones and breaks them up as soon as they're completed. I couldn't bear it personally Grin

I once read that a famous singer used to do jigsaws, frame them and send them to random people picked out of the phone directory. No idea if true but I read it 25 years ago and it's stuck in my brain!

Unpopular opinion but I don't find the liberty print fabrics (nor the endless items made from them) overly exciting and they may be iconic but nonetheless are a bit ubiquitous. Yes they're pretty to look at but I wouldn't wear them or decorate my home with them, just not my style at all. I might be alone in this but would have absolutely no use for a bit of fabric for £50, let alone the motivation or ability to turn that into something else.

I'd either put it towards skincare or makeup I know I like, or would blow it all in either the stationery dept (new own, notebook, stock up on lovely cards and wrap) or in the home dept on a new mug to enjoy it with some new tea and biscuits or chocolate.

Hope you recover your sense of smell soon OP.

I redo them over time. So really lovely ones are boxed back up and brought out in winter or taken on self catering trips etc.

I tend to always have one on the go on the kitchen table to pick away at over a couple of weeks so the doing of the jigsaw is the fun, not the end product.

Any that I am a bit Meh about, I donate when done, or pass to a friend or leave at the self catering place for the next family.

A bit OT but I've always associated Liberty with Paul Weller. Years ago I saw him coming out of the store with some children and a woman (wife probably)! He is quite small and very thin. I've not been to London for years so would not be in Liberty but I like looking at the website!

pollymere · 18/10/2022 19:47

Go there and enjoy browsing. There are some marvellous things to be found on the higher floors and darkest corners. Jewellery, scarves, ornaments, trinket boxes, stationery. Maybe get three or four smaller things rather than trying to get one thing? They used to have an antiques and collectibles section so you might find something amazing there.

MovinOnUp · 18/10/2022 21:49

Thanks everyone.
I ended up getting Christmas tree baubles.
They are gorgeous though!
