Frizzy hair advice

Sloth123 · 05/10/2022 20:33

I have waist length thick hair which is always frizzy. I am a beginner when it comes to anything hair/makeup but I really want to make more effort with myself. I am struggling to find a product which will tame my hair so that it is smooth.

I have tried the frizz ease serums, coconut oil and various heat protection spray but nothing seems to work. I have switched from a hairdryer to a blow dryer brush which has made a slight improvement but I'm still getting frizz all over. I also try not to wash my hair with really hot water, and am careful when I towel dry.

If anyone has any advice I would be so grateful, I feel like I can't enjoy my long hair because it looks so awful when I try to style it, and I end up just putting it in a bun or braid every day.

Have you tried curly girl method? It tamed my frizz!

ChocolateCareBear · 05/10/2022 20:40

Was also going to suggest the curly girl method. That and a haircut worked wonders on my hair.

Hi thank you for your reply, I have heard of this but I haven't tried it before. Is it easy to do? I will look into it thanks

Thank you, I forgot to mention I do sleep with a silk pillowcase but I will try a microfibre towel, do you have one that you would recommend?

Thank you. I'm just not sure if I can get it cut I've spent so long growing it to this length!

Wearing a silk cap with your hair tied up in a plait is way more effective than a silk pillowcase. I had to wash and straighten my hair any time I wanted my hair to behave - but now I actually prefer my hair the day after I've washed it. Sleeping in a silk cap takes all the frizz away. It's amazing!!

Have you looked into a keratin blow dry? It's like a semi straightening treatment. It can cost from £130 upwards but does help. My DD is 12 with the thickest wildest hair, it's helped a lot.

My daughter is 12 and has extremely frizzy hair. I was looking at a keratin blow dry but wasn't sure if she was too young, but you say your daughter had it, can you tell
me a bit more info? X

I have kerastraight treatment. £150 and beautiful manageable hair for 4-5 months.

Shiningstarr · 06/10/2022 14:45

I've got my daughter booked in now for the kerastraight treatment.

I use Moroccan oil shampoo, conditioner and spray. If I leave my hair to dry naturally it will still frizz a bit but not as much,, but when I straighten my hair it stays straight for a few days.

Battlecat98 · 06/10/2022 15:05

Yep kerrastraight is amazing. Minimum effort now and barely need to use any product. Interesting though as my hair dresser won't do DDS hair until she is 16. They said it's to do with insurance 🤔.

Maybe shop around? The two salons in my town offer it from 14 x

Curly girl is easy - basic rules:

  • use a no sulphate shampoo as infrequently as you can get away with.
  • use a no silicone conditioner
  • only ever comb hair when wet and covered in conditioner
  • use a leave in conditioner
  • don't ever towel dry
  • look up 'plopping' with microfibre/ cotton t shirt
  • sleep on satin / silk

If you want actual curls there's a couple of steps with curling creme / gel but if you just want to take frizz I think the above would cover it

I got a keratin treatment at the local hairdressers for £70 I'm amazed at the prices people are saying. I like that it still has waves and volume but is so much more manageable especially useful if you're going on holiday. The initial period of not washing it or putting it up is difficult as my hair was so flat from the flat ironing I hated it and I was terrified I'd be left with flat hair. I then went on holiday and spent hours in the sea and swimming pool and it's still way less frizzy. The photos are air dried hair brushed through to see the difference.

Keratin treatment it’s quite literally fry your hair chemically and physically so you’ve got to decide what do you want do you want long-term health and for it to look shiny am beautiful or do you want a short-term fix that you’ll have to spend a fortune on until the day it just quite literally snaps off ?

The curly hair method is literally like having an additional pet or small child to look after it that level of maintenance however if you can do it you will have the best hair of your life mine was absolutely stunning for three years and then I drop the ball but I’m gonna get back on it soon.

My daughter is having the keratin treatment, her hair is so frizzy there's literally nothing else we can do with it. Have tried everything else.

She was asked at school today if she had brushed it - we had spent an hour brushing and straightening it before school 😧

Whether you use shampoo or not depends on how curly your hair is.

My hair has a lot of spring in it so I don't.

I've been using the curly girl method for over ten years now. Basically, wash using tresemme conditioner, making sure ends are well coated, and tease out knots amd tangles. Rinse, spread a little conditioner through hair, squeeze gently, apply tresemme gel, scrunch with old Tshirt, wrap in old Tshirt, never use blow dryer.

I never, ever brush it while dry. This is guaranteed to damage curly hair and create an unholy mess of frizz.

If your hair is waist length you could cut 3-4 inches off the bottom - always improves the look when the ends are tidy.
