I have read where its just not necessary and an extra expense, what do you think?

Never used one and don't even understand what they do 🤣

buttons123456 · 02/10/2022 20:31

They make my hair look grey so I won't let the hairdressers use it !

bakehimawaytoys · 02/10/2022 20:33

Do you mean on hair or face?

I only use a toner on my face if it's an AHA acid toner like Pixi Glow. I do find those very effective. Normal toner not so much but it is nice to spritz on on a hot day sometimes.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 02/10/2022 20:37

Hair or face? Hair 100% as it changes the colour if you need it to, for example changes yellow blinde to a white blonde.

Face -no idea, i don't use one

MermaidEyes · 02/10/2022 20:40

If it's facial toner then I'd like to know the answer too!

IglesiasPiggl · 02/10/2022 20:42

I haven't used toner for about 25 years. It's a marketing ploy. Far better for your skin is to eat a healthy diet, sleep well and stay active.

BooseysMom · 02/10/2022 20:43

I uses to use a skin toner every day after cleansing and before sticking my face cream on. I don't bother any more and can't see or feel any difference. The only thing I can think it does is helps the face cream go on evenly.
But as I say, I haven't felt the need for it for years.

properdoughnut · 02/10/2022 20:44

No

Metabigot · 02/10/2022 20:44

Facial toner I do use to feel like I've got rid of the soapy feeling of Cleanser after washing

That's the only reason dunno if it is supposed to do something else

oviraptor21 · 02/10/2022 20:46

I'm one of the 'never use anything except soap and water' tribe so no.

OxanaVorontsova · 02/10/2022 20:50

I use the ren ready steady glow tonic and like it, it’s not essential though.

Fingernails4Cash · 02/10/2022 20:56

No to facial toner.
Yes to double cleanse.
Toner is minging stuff. So is the cotton wool it goes on.

ItsNotReallyChaos · 02/10/2022 21:09

Always make sure you have a good cleanser, toner and serum. Then once your skin is perfect, a really good moisturiser, liquid foundation, concealer and powder to cover the skin so that no one can see whether you cleanse/tone anyway.

I think this is what the cosmetics firms would like you to do.

TabithaTittlemouse · 02/10/2022 21:12

I use the ren glow toner and think it does make a difference.

FindingMeno · 02/10/2022 21:15

I use toner instead of washing my face with water. It feels cleaner.
I don't wear make up so don't use a cleanser.

TheOGCCL · 02/10/2022 21:19

Toner is quite an old fashioned concept I think. The idea was it would help you ensure your face was definitely clear of any cleanser and also wake the skin up a bit. They were never all that great, they were astringent and imo still left their own residue.

Now skincare is a lot more sophisticated (complicated!) and I rarely hear of people using toners, more likely double cleansing and serums. I think potentially the cleansers available now are better and there are better ways to improve the texture of your skin (which I guess is toning of a sort).

CornishTiger · 02/10/2022 21:24

I didn’t use one for years and years but over the last couple I’ve started using one which is a Resurfacing Glycolic Acid Toner. Yes it has made a difference. My skin looks brighter and more of a glow. This is regardless of which serum or moisturiser I use ( I get bored so have a few I use)

CornishTiger · 02/10/2022 21:26

Interesting that all the toner users here are AHA type ones

MarigoldPetals · 02/10/2022 21:27

No need. Makes no difference.

citygirl1961 · 02/10/2022 21:30

Sorry I mean facial toner.

2bazookas · 02/10/2022 21:31

I don't even know what a toner is, and I'm not dead yet.

erikbloodaxe · 02/10/2022 21:39

Just lukewarm water and a bamboo face cloth. That's it. Dab of moisturiser if it's cold, windy, hot or I'm going somewhere air conditioned. My skin has never looked so good.

AliceMcK · 02/10/2022 21:39

I never did until the last year, I wanted to get better at looking after my aging skin. I’ve definitely noticed an improvement since using it, more fresh and better glow.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 02/10/2022 21:43

Don't think so - but I use cold cream/emollient and hot water to cleanse, so I probably don't have the right skin for the question.
