Philips Lumea questions!

mrsjimhopper · 02/10/2022 16:37

Ok so about to purchase this (well I
Might wait till Black Friday or prime day)

A few final questions if you could help me out please

I thought IPL was permanent? Or am I confused? Is it different to the salon IPL

Also I think I want the prestige and want it for face legs bikini and underarms. Do I need the one with four attachments?

How much should I pay?

Any alternatives?

@TheOriginalNutty Cheers! I was looking into ordering directly from there, but it was much cheaper on the Amazon Prime offer.

www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-Lumea-IPL-Prestige-Attachments/

It is being sold by the Phillips Store on there though, does that mean I can still send it back if it doesn't work?

WhiteWhiteWhite · 12/10/2022 21:20

@mrsjimhopper 😱How much? Oh yikes. I was hoping the two attachments might do everything, but now you've got me wondering....

I can't quite push the button on my 'cheap' offer of £250.

I wonder if it will be cheaper on Black Friday?

WhiteWhiteWhite · 12/10/2022 21:21

@JAC76 Ah, thanks. You've just answered my Q about doing everything with just two attachments 😎

WhiteWhiteWhite · 12/10/2022 21:26

Thanks @AIIyMcBeal Smile Your model on John Lewis is currently £470. That's The Daddy Grin

My bargain two attachment one is £400 at JL, so I just might get that £250 offer on Amazon.

WhatsitWiggle · 12/10/2022 21:31

I've got the Prestige with 3 attachments (leg, bikini/underarm/face). Paid about £350 2.5 years ago when Covid hit and I couldn't get to the salon for waxing.

Used it every two weeks as directed then monthly but the hair grew back so did another two cycles of two weeks on lower legs, face and underarms.

I kept up monthly zaps for a few months after that and now the hair has all but gone and I just zap when I see anything growing back - can be months. I get the odd chin hair (had black think spiky hairs before) and very fine upper lip. Underarms are pretty much completely hair free - what does grow back is super fine. And lower legs have about 10 hairs on each - knees are the worst but apparently that's due to blood flow and normal.

I find the bikini painful so I've not kept that up enough to get the same results.

Mine was totally amazing but you need to use them regularly or they stop working. Read the small print in the instructions. There's something about the battery.

WhiteWhiteWhite · 12/10/2022 21:44

Good feedback, thanks WhatsitWiggle 👍🏻 Sounds quite promising.

Oh crikey. Thanks for that advice. Gutting after spending all that money 😫

CinnamonJellyBeans · 12/10/2022 21:46

Great on face. I cannot recommend it enough

WhiteWhiteWhite · 12/10/2022 22:42

Good luck @mrsjimhopper

I've just purchased mine Smile

Fingers crossed this was a good move to part with so much money!

Boobreduction · 13/10/2022 10:39

I have the lumea from 2016 and used it very day for a couple of months. That's against the recommended usage but I was impatient but it did the job!

Nothing grew back for a long while ( chin) and after 9 months to a year I started seeing a bit coming back but much thinner.

I know zap maybe once very few months to maintain it

100% one the best purchases I have invested in

mrsjimhopper · 13/10/2022 17:37

@WhiteWhiteWhite I decided to wait until black Friday no real reason other than Dithering. It's back up to £425.

Can you let me know your first impression!

WhiteWhiteWhite · 13/10/2022 18:39

Dithering Grin I'm not even going to share how long I've been dithering! 🙈

@mrsjimhopper I'll let you know how it goes. Maybe arriving tomorrow.

QuestionableMouse · 13/10/2022 18:50

@mrsjimhopper ive sent you a PM that might save you some money! 😁

50plusandfabulous · 23/10/2022 21:39

Can you use it on the menopausal face bristles? I get some horrors!

This one is on offer at Boots www.boots.com/philips-lumea-prestige-ipl-hair-removal-device-for-body-face-and-precision-areas--10293006 and I’ve got a voucher plus i get student discount.

Tempted…….

ChuffKnows · 23/10/2022 21:53

I paid £269 on Amazon for mine a couple of years ago but before I'd used it it went down again to £239 so I returned it and bought at the new price (cleared this on help chat first so no hassle).
It's been fantastic on my legs, really good on my armpits but only ok on my face. I've not really done my bikini line with it so can't comment on that.
I swear my leg hair used to prickle up within an hour of shaving the buggers so I'm happy with that but really disappointed that I still have to contend with spiky chin hairs 😏

WhatsitWiggle · 28/10/2022 15:49

@50plusandfabulous as long as they're not blonde or grey, then yes. I had some horrors on my chin and with the odd zap every couple of months they've not grown back.

Smilelesstalkmore · 28/10/2022 16:41

It's not permanent but particularly if you use it in the lead up to summer you won't have to shave/wax at all all summer. I haven't used mine since about June now and am quite hairy again, so you do have to maintain, but only every few weeks.

Weirdly, it doesn't work on my knees at all, so I have to shave my knees. I think its because the skin on my knees is darker and the hairs are lighter.

But overall, it's really good.

AlabamaWorley22 · 28/10/2022 20:37

IPL is not permanent in the way medical grade laser is. I’ve had laser on my underarms and bikini and have dithered over getting a lumea for years to treat my legs.

I finally caved yesterday but bought a Braun Silk Expert Pro 5 after years (literally) of reading reviews and comparing Lumea with the Braun version. It was down from £600 to £300 at Boots with an extra 10% off, so only £270.

this looks better for me as it glides over the skin rather than having to stop and start so I’m hoping it will change my life!
