Laser hair removal

I had my first session of laser hair removal on my underarms a week ago. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but so far they don't look any different.

I have very thick gnarly dark hair and the stubble is just as thick as it was before the session. I've bought a 6 session course of treatment and although I understood it would take at least that to get rid of most of the hair I was expecting to see some difference after the first session.

Have I just not waited long enough yet? Does it take a while for the hair to fall out?

It takes a while, some people get very little change until after the 3/4th session.
I have had laser and my hair did take a while to shift. I also trained and carried out the procedure in a previous career.

PeachMelba78 that's good to hear, I was starting to wonder if all that pain and cost was for nothing! It really hurt, and I'm someone who doesn't find waxing my own bikini line particularly painful.

Having said that, I think it might just be my armpit hair and skin, I had them waxed once, about 20 years ago, they didn't stop bleeding for days.

I've had 2 sessions (my third is tomorrow) and I have almost no hair left on my underarms. I have dark hair and fair skin. I've no idea if that's normal or if it's just worked very well on me, but I think it was after the second session that I really noticed a difference. I've had no pain at all except for a mild zapping sensation on some thicker hairs around my knees and ankles.

SpiderGram · 29/09/2022 21:18

Sounds like you've had great results so far PeacefulInTheDeep, I have dark hair and fair skin too and the technician seemed to think I should get good results. I really was surprised at how much it hurt, I'm normally pretty OK with such things but this made my eyes water. My underarm hairs are unusually thick though so wondering if that's why, (or I'm more of a wimp than I thought!).

Yeah the thick hairs definitely have a bit of a sting to them, so I can understand it being pretty uncomfortable if you have a lot of thick hairs on that sensitive area!

I just remembered that for a week or so after my first session, the itching from the regrowth on my bikini line was driving me mad! By the time I shaved for my second session there was a noticeable reduction in the amount of hair, so maybe you just need to wait a bit longer to see results.

Thank you, that gives me hope 🤞

A week isn't long enough to see the shedding- you'll notice a difference after 2-3 weeks.

I have had 4 sessions - legs, bits and pits. Underarms I have barely any growth now- previously would need to shave daily. Legs grow much slower and finer. Bikini is same as legs - slow but there's a difference. Biggest thing on bikini for me is no ingrown hairs or rashes.

I bought a course of 8 so have another 4 to go.

SpiderGram · 02/10/2022 20:56

@treetoptina, that all sounds very encouraging!

I’ve just signed up for 8 sessions for armpits and bikini. Done my test session, 1st proper one next week. Big decision …bikini…how far to go?!? Do not want a Hollywood or anything too extreme!

Idlechitchat · 02/10/2022 22:31

It’s too early for you to notice a difference yet. I’ve had 4 sessions now and have hardly any re growth 😊

SpiderGram · 08/10/2022 22:28

Thanks all, a week on and there is a definite improvement, I'd say 50% of the hair has now disappeared (for now) I'm not sure what I was expecting, I think I naively thought the hairs all just fell out pretty much immediately! 😂

I recently had my first laser hair removal treatment and was disappointed.
Maybe it's my fault for not doing enough research before doing it. I thought I'd do a session because the hair will grow back much slower and in a month or two, and after a few sessions, it will stop growing completely. Just after the session, I discovered that I will still need to shave on a regular basis and that it will take 6-8 sessions for it to stop growing completely.
Now I am thinking should i just stick to regular shaving and ocasionally waxing or its better to make an investment now and not worry about it later?

SpiderGram · 27/10/2022 21:44

@Blondiana a month on from my first session and I'm really pleased with mine, so I'd say stick with it a bit longer. I've only had to shave once in the past month, previously I'd have really thick dark stubble within a couple of days of shaving. I don't know how it will be long term, but I booked a block of 6 sessions to start with and am feeling hopeful if initial results are anything to go by!

I have only had one session and can already see a change, really surprised!

Blondiana · 28/10/2022 08:48

@SpiderGram I am really happy for you. Maybe I am just the impatient type. It's nice to have positive feedback, and it's really encouraging. As other people said, it would take a few sessions to get rid of all the hairs. I think I will perceiver and book 5–6 sessions as you did.😊
