Black and brown together. It used to be a HUGE no-no. Is it still?

Only I have a brown outfit but only got black shoes.

Now, I have a black & brown together...noooooooooo

sort of reaction.

But it doesn't look bad to me, just that I grew up having that message rammed down my throat

So. Is it still a total fashion boob?

Because I really want to wear my new brown tunic with my black trousers and shoes.

No, it's not a complete no-no - black and brown can look great together.

But it's not an easy thing to pull off.

Very hard to judge whether what you are suggesting is OK without seeing you in it.

Cremolafoam · 25/01/2008 10:42

no i like it but it has to be a good stong bitter chocolate and black black. no washed out greyish denim or chestnut colours

TheFallenMadonna · 25/01/2008 10:43

Yes. Depends on the brown I think.

Hecate · 25/01/2008 10:54

hmmm, I think I shall have to buy a pair of brown shoes really, won't I?

But there's no point buying a pair of shoes just to go with one top and one skirt.

That's a waste of money.

So really, I need at least a dozen items that will go with a pair of brown shoes, or I am being irresponsible.

Thank you mumsnet, for your excellent advice.

Why not get some really chunky black beads just to pull the whole look together? I think that would look fine.

doggiesayswoof · 25/01/2008 14:52

I would def wear a brown top with black trousers and shoes (depending on the shade of brown, and with some black beads as maidamess says)

But I would not do brown top and skirt with black shoes - that just seems very wrong.

(Have just realised I wore brown trousers with black boots and a black top last week. I think I got away with it)

Maidamess · 25/01/2008 14:59

I would wear a really dark chocolate skirt with black tights and shoes.

If you smile and sashay when you walk you can wear anything
