Botox

I had botox in my jaw for teeth grinding 5 days ago. They said it would take 3/4 days to take effect and up to 2 weeks to be fully effective.

I can't feel or see any difference at all. The grinding muscles are still working really strongly and they don't seem any weaker at all yet. Is this normal?

I have a follow up in 2 weeks but just a bit concerned that absolutely nothing seems to have happened. This is a reputable clinic and it was administered by an experienced doctor.

I had it on the NHS and it did nothing for me. I was told it definitely doesn't work for everyone. We agreed to stop after a few rounds as nothing had changed and I'm really not sure I felt any discernable difference at any point, ditto acupuncture which seemed to make it worse.

I didn't see any meaningful difference in the shape of my jaw but again wasn't expecting to as I was told it wouldn't alter much in that respect either. I think the amounts used are quite small.

If you paid privately I'd expect they would be perfectly happy to speak to you about it if you're concerned or not feeling there's any result.

Botox for bruxism absolutely takes 6 weeks to see the result.

Botox for wrinkles in the upper face start to show effect 3-5 days and full results seen at 2 weeks.

Your doctor is slightly wrong. But don’t panic, just give it a little more time

Thanks. I have a follow up in 2 weeks where they can top it up. What I'm confused about is that when I clench my jaw the muscles they injected seem to be working the same as normal.

The doctor said she had never had a patient who didn't see significant improvement in bruxism. Hope I'm not the first!
