How do I style this dress for autumn?

I bought this dress in the summer and would like to keep wearing it during transitional season but I'm not sure how to style it for colder weather. Not sure I could wear with black tights but if not what colour tights? I don't like long boots so I was thinking maybe Chelsea boots but, again, not sure what colour.

Please help!

Brown. See if you can find some woolly tights in the ginger or dark red colour of the flowers and brown boots, brown handbag etc. It's nice, I like it.

Whataretheodds · 27/09/2022 10:24

Polo neck underneath, knee high boots, belt

Also could do chunky cardigan/sleeveless cardigan

Pingoola · 27/09/2022 10:28

Thanks both! I don't like boots any taller than ankle unfortunately.

I agree brown, was also thinking maybe navy? Or is that too much (navy tights? Navy boots?)

I’d go light tan. Would avoid cowboy boots style, with the dress style it might look a bit too much like you were going for a Little House on the prairie costume.

Navy could also work, a solid navy short jacket over it would be nice.

Whataretheodds · 27/09/2022 11:11

Ankle boots fine too.

Have you got the dress already? It's hard to tell from the pic which tones would work but navy is generally a great neutral.
Brown doesn't work for me but tan is a really useful colour for accessories too.

Whataretheodds · 27/09/2022 11:12

Its doesn't all have to match either - so navy hat, tan belt, rusty red jerkin/duster, navy tights and boots.

Lancashire mill lass boots in brown.

I'd avoid cowboy boots for anything but I like Little House on the Prairie look so I'd wear flat lace-up ankle boots.

Definitely not Chelsea boots- I think the rustic look of the dress wouldn't go with them.

Navy's fine too.

I wouldn't wear a cardigan over it. Dress and cardigan looks frumpy IMO.

Light cotton or viscose polo-neck (Gap and Land's End do good ones) under and yes, it'd look good with ankle boots. Although I'd also wear it with fairly chunky trainers. Not white (cliched and also a bit summery) but anything else really.
I have a couple of pairs of these UGG boots: www.amazon.co.uk/UGG-Womens-Patsy-Boots-Black/dp/B071YTFPDD; don't know if they still stock them but I love wearing them with dresses.
I think you could wear loads of colours of tights, depending on how understated or otherwise you want to go. Off the top of my head, dark green/lime green; dark/hot pink; yellow/purple.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 27/09/2022 12:36

How about a cream cable knit tank top over the top?

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 27/09/2022 13:02

Beautiful dress.

If you really want to push the boat out there might be something on & Daughter

www.and-daughter.com/collections/all

Or a bit cheaper Palava heritage knitwear

For warm legs without tights, you can wear ‘secret leggings’ underneath the dress if you have some of those just-below-the-knee pedal pusher type ones. I’ve never tried it myself but have seen it recommended

on top, a cropped chunky knit in a neutral could look great too, but will depend on how long it is and how it sits on the waistband of the dress. Can always add a brown leather belt to give you more waist definition

dudsville · 27/09/2022 17:07

White (or red/oxblood) ankle boots and an oversized cardigan. I think brown would make it look not very current, but would obviously be easy on the eye.

PreColumbian · 27/09/2022 20:09

Cream polo neck, burgundy tights, slouchy hand knit cardigan
Cream lacy tights, oversized tank top
Massive puffy gilet (I’m after one from Part Two) and trainers

PreColumbian · 27/09/2022 20:10

Oh also a tweed overcoat

Fingernails4Cash · 27/09/2022 20:15

Rust coloured boots and belt.
Nice dress!

Boots, not trainers.

Pretty Navy M&S boots

I don't know if these are the right style for the dress but I saw navy boots mentioned upthread and I had to share these.

I bought them last month from M&S and they're SO comfortable. I've had so many compliments!

Pingoola · 29/09/2022 12:56

Thanks all! I am going for dark olive / brown fine knit jumper plus dark red / cream or brown tights and navy or brown Chelsea boots.

Will figure it all out from this.

OP posts:
FKATondelayo · 29/09/2022 13:01

You could wear a cropped chunky jumper over it. That would make it feel a bit more contemporary rather than cardigan.

Pingoola · 29/09/2022 13:07

Sadly I'm too chunky to wear chunky knitwear

Plus I don't like feeling hot

OP posts:
Pingoola · 29/09/2022 13:07

Also I don't wear cardigans
