I prefer to wear garter stockings rather than tights in the colder months and for years have bought multi packs of Tudor Rose stockings in Warm Mink and Nearly Black from Amazon. But they aren't available any more and i can't find anywhere that sells basic stockings - everything is either garish colours or horrible prints or 'sexy' Sad Can anyone else recommend a source? John Lewis and M&S only do single packs of expensive ones (I can't afford £5 a pack!)

Oh thank you!

Suspenders always, always (yes, I said that twice 😂) under knix. I think websites/catalogues show them going over so you can view the product better.

Or perhaps there’s a man in charge of the photoshoot, who doesn’t understand how a suspender belt works, or how a woman works for that matter!!!

wizzywig · 28/09/2022 19:23

Can't you see the knobbly bits of the suspender belt through the clothing?

Depends if it’s tight fitting or not. I tend to wear fuller or A line skirts but I seem to remember you could maybe see the bumps of clips through tighter skirts but you would have to be really looking !

I’ve just ordered a multi-pack from gipsy tights, this thread is a day too late for me! Cheap so I hope they last.

I hate holdups and they always fall down on me, so I still have to wear suspenders which just looks daft.

StarlightLady · 29/09/2022 08:33

@wizzywig - You would have to wear a very tight skirt (possibly pencil skirt) for the outline to show through your clothes.

@TitInATrance - The thickness of hold ups (or fall downs as I call them!!!) will ruin suspender clasps very quickly as well.

Gipsy stockings ? I’m sure they will be fine, I have some opaque ones same brand and although they don’t last as long as more expensive brands they are fine if you hand wash them( I have a hosiery bag to wash mine in and I use this for all but most expensive stockings)

There's a large range of stockings (and tights) at TheTightSpot.com.

Tudor Rose were to my understanding made in Poland, so it may be a case of the UK's exit from the EU meaning export to the UK is no longer feasible.

I can recommend the following, available through Amazon. If you cut an paste in the below, you can get a 4 Pack for £10.95 noting these are plain, cheapish but robust stockings. Make sure you get large size if tall.

  • Silky Soft, Sheer & Durable Smooth Knit Everyday Stockings (4 Pair Pack)

I note also that Stockings HQ is mentioned in the discussion. Unfortunately, they stopped trading just before Christmas 2022, again due to extra administration due to the UK leaving the EU. ### This is the main reason I've posted, noting this discussion started some time ago. ###

As well as Amazon, there's UK Tights who also sell stockings.

As regards the garter / suspender belts then if you're paying less that a tenner for a belt then it will be a cheap, narrow belt with one or two clips at the back and plastic stockings fasteners, the kind for the bedroom that are not suited for everyday wear. They can be horrible to wear and send women scurrying back to tights land in a flash.

You should be paying at least £10, possibly £15 or more for a belt, noting three clips at the back fastening is a must (once set, just slide on and off over your hips depending upon the belt). Also, importantly, the suspender fasteners need to be the metal ones and not cheap plastic. This reduces the likelihood of stockings coming loose from the fasteners.

I'm happy with the 4 strap belts as I don't want too much fuss putting stockings on. I've been using the following from Amazon, which are okay and relatively inexpensive but it's horses for courses and may not suit some.

  • TVRtyle Women Vintage 4 Straps Metal Buckles Sexy Garter Belts for Stockings Retro Suspender Belt S502

I'd go to a decent shop and try on a few to find one that's comfortable.
Extra expense can be offset by the belt having a long lifetime (a year or more, or even longer).

However, many recommend 6 strap or more for "extra security" (i.e. stockings coming loose).

One other thing to add.

Plain top stockings as you've probably realised are better for fastening to the suspender clips. Lacy tops are harder for me to fasten, keep in place and not break free.

Thank you @MackemSue - I had forgotten about this thread ! After my overeating of the last couple of months I can’t wear any of my trousers so def need some more stockings x

6 strap belt and John Lewis stockings for me. Before I transitioned I only ever wore tights as they covered a "multitude of sins". Now I find stockings much more comfortable with the added attraction of increased interest from my BF

667TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 02/08/2023 14:15

@celiawife thank you for that recommendation, just checked it out. Was looking for another online shop after the closure of Stockings HQ

MTPlate · 21/08/2023 17:53

Another vote for stockingsworld.co.uk. They have a website/shop and also sell thru eBay and Etsy. Great selection
