Where can I get make up help?

I only ever wear mascara. A bit of bronzer if I go out in the evening. When I try other things I just look silly IMO.
Years ago I went to the body shop and they did my make up, and I bought the products. Can I do this somewhere? I just want natural look, basic makeup. Nothing fancy.

Yes,

Larger boots stores have counters and John lewis

Try a no7 counter at boots

Flymyway · 26/09/2022 06:54

Thank you, do you have to pay?

Make sure you go home first/ see what you look like under different lighting, rather than buying there and then. I bought a foundation in Boots after having someone do my make up. It looked great..... until I got home and realised I looked like I had been tangoed!

Wayne can help. Great tips and you can watch him apply stuff. There are others of course but Wayne is really good https://www.youtube.com/c/WayneGoss

I think you can book free help online with Clarins.

But just go into any department store on a quiet day (weekdays probably better) and ask one of the make up counters. If you want to post your needs/style/age we could maybe suggest good brands to try.

If you have a SpaceNK near you they’re also really good and will be able to pick and mix from different brands.

I would avoid having your make up done at MAC if you're not used to make up - you will come out looking like a drag Queen (I take it that's not the look you're going for).

You would probably be better somewhere like Charlotte Tilbury, Bobbi Brown or Estée Lauder.

Also check the lovely Lisa Eldridge out online. She does lovely make up tutorials - she's aimed really at 35+ I would say but she's perfect for anyone who wants nice natural and easy to do looks.

A tinted moisturiser or CC cream will probably suit you better than a heavy foundation, you can get products that double as a lip and cheek tint and then an eye shadow pencil - these are fast and great for keeping it simple. Then your mascara.

I think it's a bit overwhelming at the moment with all of the 'influencers' contouring and cut creasing and whatever the heck else but it's not that difficult in reality.

Thank you that's really helpful!
I'm 45, I have clear skin. I just want subtle makeup so will try those ones people have mentioned. I live in Brighton, there is a large boots, would they be in there?

I've had lots of make up looks done by people on beauty counters with very variable success.

Cosmetics a La carte so t advertise are are absolutely invested in helping you get comfortable with your look and how to produce it yourself.

Now I trust them completely, I always go to Laura

For natural looks I would suggest Bobbi brown counters.

Boots in Brighton would be a good shout OP, they have lots of branded counters last time I was in there, all of which would be happy to help you and there is no obligation to buy. Just let them know you are wanting a light every day makeup and a natural look. Space NK would also be good and has the benefit of not being as overwhelming as it's a smaller shop. I think you also have a MAC shop near the pavilion.

I'm sure you don't look silly, it's just strange seeing ourselves in ways we don't usually look, I find. I like makeup but don't wear a lot so my every day makeup is a light/medium glowy foundation, a bit of concealer where I need it (not blessed with clear skin like you're fortunate to be!), super fine line eyebrow pencil to lightly fill, clear gel to set, brown eyeliner on the upper lashline smudged out, mascara, cream blush and a tinted lip balm.

If it's for an occasion I'd probably add a bit of highlighter, curl my lashes, eyeshadow stick and line my lips before adding lipstick.

If you’re in Brighton, I’d go to Space Nk, particularly if they have a Laura Mercier make up artist scheduled.
