As the title. I am going to a comedians show this week and literally haven't a clue what to put on/buy.

I am mid 40s, short and the body shape of a sack of potatoes.

Can someone please dress me

What’s your usual style @DutchessOfMuck ? The best starting point is what you usually wear/feel comfortable in. If you can give us a bit more info I’m sure lots of us can try to help!

I’m sure you don’t need to buy anything new!! What are your favourite items of clothing - pull them out & ideas for creating an outfit with them

Will you have to stand? I’m which case maybe shoes are the start point ..

I am also the shape of a sack of potatoes but can tell you that age is a friend to women like us as "don't give a fuck" comes with it.
Wear what you feel comfortable in and take your DGAF attitude with you and you'll be fine Grin

Thank you both so much 💖 I live rural so basically live in skinny jean's with a top and joules wellies and a barber jacket. Or leggings and a top with a long jacket, Chelsea boots.

@QueenOfHiraeth thank you so much for your wisdom. I will chant that mantra 😁

What sort of venue is it? Comedy club? Room over a pub? Theatre in a town?
If it's in a city I wouldn't wear wellies and Barbour jacket. But otherwise basically anything casual / relaxed smart casual. Personally I would wear dark colours so the comedian wouldn't notice me!

I’m thinking that the jeans, jacket and boots combination will look lovely. If you’re going to buy anything new, maybe a top to go with that, or a new necklace or earrings? Always better to build and enhance your usual style, if you go radically different or try to be someone else it will just make you feel self conscious. One of the wonderful bonuses of getting older is understanding what suits you and what you feel comfortable in. I just wish I had worked that out 20 years ago!

@CherrySocks just noticed tonight we have front row seats 😱 its Kevin bridges at Aberdeen.

@Cardigansalltheway I was thinking about black skinny jeans, high heels, a black top, nice black blazer jacket and a clutch bag. The bag and heels a pop of colour such as teal. Then minimum jewelry in gold.

I think your outfit is spot on, the only thing I’d perhaps reconsider is the heels. I was out in the city centre on a Saturday evening the other day and was really struck by how many very dressed up women, particularly younger women, were wearing flats - boots, trainers, ballet pumps, anything really, and most looked great (and comfortable!). I think heels might look a bit formal for the type of evening out you’re describing, but equally, if you frequently wear heels and feel they finish your outfit, then go for it, there are no rules to these things and I’m sure you’ll look great!

A final tip would be to look around at what others are wearing on your night out and see for yourself what you like and can imagine yourself wearing. That will be a better basis for a gradual wardrobe revamp than, say, things you might see in a magazine. Hope you have a brilliant time!

Don't wear the wellies- apart from that just wear what you'd normally wear to leave the house.

I think you're over thinking this. You really don't need to dress up for something like this. There's not an issue with your suggestions but you don't need to add heels and a clutch bag unless of course that's your normal thing.

If it's at the P&J it can start off chilly & warm up as the evening goes on. So your layers are a good idea. The car park is freezing as you wait in the queue to pay!
