Facial sunscreen for very sensitive skin - help!

Please help me find a decent facial sunscreen that doesn’t cause redness and irritation! I’ve used so many and initially don’t seem to have any issues, then inevitably after a few weeks or even months I start to get itchiness, stinging and then worsening irritation. It’s incredibly annoying.

Recently I’ve tried:
Ultrasun tinted
LRP Anhelios
Nivea face sensitive and anti-shine

I’m not made of money so definitely unable to try the likes of Zelens, but I’m dedicated to my retinol so need to sort this issue. I suspect I need a physical rather than chemical based sunscreen but don’t fancy having a face full of thick greasy slop (combination skin).

Waiting for recommendations with much anticipation! Thank you.

I'd suggest medik8 but it's a bit pricey - I don't know if they offer trial satchets?

PumpkinDart · 25/09/2022 20:50

I have quite sensitive skin and like Supergoop

properdoughnut · 25/09/2022 20:52

Weirdly the only one that suits my sensitive skin is the body shop one sorry can't remember the name

Beautifuldahlias · 25/09/2022 20:57

I use Clinique spf 50 mineral sunscreen fluid for face. It’s a tiny bottle and probably a little pricy but I can’t remember because it lasts absolutely ages and I use it every day. A tiny amount goes a long way. It’s not gloopy or anything like that, it just feels like moisturiser.

Heliocare

My face is very sensitive but I've always been fine with Superdrug facial suncream, little yellow tube.

clowerina · 25/09/2022 21:10

i really like the biore aqua rich watery essence
you have to buy it from a genuine supplier (it is from japan and some fakes around on amazon etc).
but it's so good, no stingy eyes etc.

Bigpinkslippers · 25/09/2022 21:19

My face is very sensitive and I've been fine with clinical. For me I'm ok with most things as a one off but after a week or so I get a reaction. I explained this at the clinique counter and the put some out of the sample bottle into a tub for me so I could try it before buying.
Tropic also has a policy that you can return product which dont work for you for any reason and my ambassador also lets you borrow things for a couple of weeks to try. However tropic suncream, although I didn't get a reaction, I just wasn't keen on it.

See I love Medik8. The retinol is the best I’ve ever tried. I can only imagine that the sunscreen is brilliant and I don’t want to try it in case I fall in love and can’t be without it and bugger the cost 😢

Any thoughts on Ultra Violette?

Epionce Ultra Shield 50 spf is excellent, it sinks in well and is a good base. There’s also a tinted version.

Green People.

I started using a physical sunscreen at the beginning of August as I was wondering whether the LRP one was causing irritation and making my skin oilier.
It’s a REN one (REN Clean Skincare Clean Screen Mineral SPF30) and expensive but causes me no irritation and amazingly for the first time in years no hormonal spots around my jaw. Possibly a coincidence of course.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 25/09/2022 21:45

I've started using SOS SPF this week. It's designed for sensitive skin and I'm impressed so far. Moisturises but doesn't leave skin greasy. Works well under makeup.

Have used ISDiN (but in spain or online) for 20 years, it's the only one my super allergic skin has ever actually tolerated,...until Ultraviolette.thus doesn't cause me problems either (does give me the odd spot which the old one didn't, bit nothuing major) Ive now switched as although both gave the same spf50 and the Isdin suits me, I think the sun protection is better in the ultraviolette.

Kindlethefourth · 25/09/2022 21:58

Altruist. Cheap but brilliant. DD2 has been on roaccutane which means she had to avoid the sun and she is scrupulous about sunscreen and her skin in sensitive. Amazon sell it but they have recently had it in Lloyds chemist. Her skin looks amazing with it-her teachers ask her what she uses!

CMOTDibbler · 25/09/2022 22:03

Cetaphil spf50 works really well for me as an everyday spf. If I'm going to be out in the daylight for more than a quick pop I do add a proper sunscreen (severe sun sensitivity) but it certainly seems to last well by itself

I second the Ren recommendation, sometimes on offer in TK Maxx for half price

Altruist is very good and cheap

Mother87 · 26/09/2022 17:58

Nuxe Factor 50.... it doesn't say its for sensitive skin, but i've had photo-sensitivity/heat rashes/prickly heat etc & the whole Nuxe range has been brilliant (and smells lovely - all natural oils) M&S sometimes do it on a 3 for 2 and I get a lot on ebay...

hugefanofcheese · 26/09/2022 18:00

Thank you farmer spf50 light essence. My skin is a bit sensitive but my eyes are ridiculously so and this is the only one ive tried that doesn't set them off watering all over the shop

Twonkyboo · 26/09/2022 18:03

institut age defence spf 50

Izzy24 · 26/09/2022 18:06

LaRoche Posay factor 50? Been using it for a couple of years on v sensitive skin now. Middle price but Boots have offers from time to time.

AuntieMarys · 26/09/2022 18:08

I react really badly in the sun...pustular roseacea and PMLE. Tried Tropic sunscreen this year and got no adverse reaction

WhereAreWeNow · 26/09/2022 18:10

I really like Vichy 3-in-1 mattifying face sun block. I think it's physical but it doesn't leave a white cast and it never irritates my sensitive skin.
