Breast Reduction in 40s?

MrsWidgerysLodger · 23/09/2022 20:39

Looking for anyone who has had a reduction at 40 plus.. Currently a 32J and HATE IT. I was always large of Nork but they grew in pregnancy (5 years ago) and never shrank back down. I just hate the way they look and feel but I'm in my early 40s and wondering if the healing time and general faffery is worth it or if I'm just better learning to live with it all.

I haven't had one. But my view is you're probably not even halfway through your life yet. If it would make a big improvement in your quality of life you should go for it!

I’ll agree with this, I had one in my 30s and I genuinely would not have the quality of life now (I’m early 50s) had I not had it done. I also really believe that I have saved the nhs money in the long term as I had it done in the nhs but I am so so much more active because my boobs are normal and proportionate.

I swam 1.8 miles today in a wetsuit I’d never have been able to fit into pre op.

Had mine done at around 42 and returned to work after two weeks - healing and recovery all normal. I'm now 68 and they still look good!

Best thing I ever did.

I had one in my early 40s it was the best decision I have ever made for myself. I did get an infection in one breast after but I was lucky I had a really good surgeon who looked after me.

Rockonteur · 23/09/2022 20:55

Had mine at 44. The best thing I have ever done. I’m grateful every day even 4 years on.

purplepaintedpineapple · 23/09/2022 21:05

I had one at 40 - I'd gone from a 34DD to a 34H after having children. Now back to previous size - no problems and best thing I ever did.

VinoDino · 23/09/2022 21:09

I had one in my early 20's, now 40 and to be honest would love another one. They are no way near as big as before, I am carrying lockdown weight and they'll probably (hopefully) go down one I lose it but I love small boobs. And I have a narrow back.

zaramysaviour · 23/09/2022 21:35

Had mine at 43 - I only waited so long as I never had the money before. One of the best things I've ever done. I was a FF cup (which at 5'1/size 10 [pre-lockdown!] was def too big for my frame. I always loathed my breasts; it's so debilitating being big.

Edinlassy · 24/09/2022 00:04

Treated myself to a reduction and lift for my 40th. 7 years on still look great absolutely no regrets.

deedledeedledum · 24/09/2022 01:00

Does a reduction always involve a scar from underneath to nipple ? Does it fade?

losingit31 · 24/09/2022 11:52

My sister did at 50 - she was a K cup. The surgeon said it was the largest reduction he had ever done and she went to a D. Unfortunately, it was to facilitate radiotherapy for breast cancer but she's been clear for six years now. It was life changing in more ways than one.

Usually yes as they reposition the nipple as part of the procedure but yes it fades. To be honest I barely notice it now, I do a lot of open water swimming so am often changing outdoors and my friend said she wouldn’t have noticed if I hadn’t pointed it out, but I’m still unlikely to get much work as I glamour model.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 24/09/2022 12:56

I went from a K cup to a DD. It was on the NHS due to crippling back ache.

I was 54. It was the best thing I’ve ever had done. Lost 5lbs in weight.

Really helpful to find this thread. I’m in the process of trying to find the right surgeon as I’m so tired of lugging my boobs around. I’m 52 but really active (one of the big reasons I just need them done) & the thing I’m most worried about is the recovery & not being able to lift in the gym/ rides bikes which is kinda what keeps me sane. Any advice from people on the other side?

I was in a sports bra 24/7 for 6 weeks. No exercise or pulling or lifting anything!
Vertical scars still visible 7 months on but fading gradually. Applying Cicaplast twice a day. Delighted with my results.

Singletrackmind · 17/10/2022 19:58

Great to hear you are pleased. I’ve read such varying accounts of what people can do afterwards but 6 weeks in the bra & up to 3 months off my usual stuff seems to be the minimum I’ll need to get my head around … it feels quite scary, is it?

Blip · 18/10/2022 00:55

My aunty had it done at age 80 and now is the boobs of an eighteen year old.
She wishes she did it decades ago.
She needed a little bit of help at home for the first couple of days post op.

Blip · 18/10/2022 00:56

clpsmum · 18/10/2022 00:59

Has anyone that had them done been in Scotland? I'm looking to get this done and looking for recommendations
