I’m 53. Salt and pepper colour naturally, which I embraced for a while, but then started having baby highlights all over. Had an appointment yesterday to have a it cut just above shoulders, beautiful honeyish high and low lights. I
I love my hairdresser, it looked amazing yesterday!

woke up this morning with one side of frizzy and the other still beautiful!

when I look after it myself if never gets the smoothness and shine it gets from the hairdresser.

I’ve tried cheap shampoos, more expensive ones, just using conditioner. Tresemme heat spray.

years ago my hair was naturally very straight, oily, dark and shiny.
now it’s naturally dry and frizzy, I think partly because of all the grey, and also now the colouring.

please can you give me any recommendations of things to try that might make it look lovely again!

Try products from the Milkshake range, shampoo, conditioner, leave in conditioner and no frizz glistening milk, all currently on special offer on Amazon, I've just ordered some more tonight.
I've got balayage and my blonde bits are really dry and frizzy, milkshake makes my hair smooth and glossy

Do you get the one fior coloured hair?

I’ve hair that’s prone to frizz but had great results from the new Elvive Hydra Hyaluronic Conditioner, which is reasonably affordable. Also use a silk pillowcase and a silk scrunchie for tying it up. The silk pillowcase is also really good for skin too, it’s noticeably softer when you wake up.

Back for an update. Have treated myself to a travel set of Morrocan Oil stuff. Used it today on first wash since hair appointment and it has worked brilliantly. Used shampoo, conditioner and then the light oil before blow drying. Put a little extra oil on ends after drying and I have lovely smooth shiny hair.

I’ve also ordered cheap satin pillowcases to see if they help.

I will have a go with some rollers at some point too, and see how I go longterm with the Moroccan Oil stuff or try out the other suggestions.

Thank you everyone for all your posts.

Im 51 and after having straight hair all my life my hairdresser showed me the back of my wet hair🙄
it had become wavy😂
so thats why it was driving me crazy trying to blowdry it😉
its now a frizzy nightmare.
try my best to condition it properly.
I also bought the Remington hydraluxe if im going out

I recommend a weekly blow dry. I’ve been doing it for about twenty years now. I have really thick, curly and unmanageable hair. No amount of effort on my part makes it look good. I go every Thursday and it last a week. It’s about £100 a month but I don’t have any other vices.

I sleep with coconut oil on my hair once a week. I can't begin to tell you what a difference it's made to my hair. If I miss a week I can really tell.

Londonlou2 · 03/10/2022 18:33

Use Ghd or similar hair straighteners to make hair sleek.
also colour wow dream coat is incredible

LilyPAnderson · 05/10/2022 23:54

Get one of those hair dryers with a round brush at the end. Then when you go out, even if your hair hasn't been washed and isn't wet, give your hair a quick run through with that to smooth out the frizz. It works on dry hair as long as it was previously conditioned after washing, as even dry hair will have some moisture from the atmosphere and as long as hair has some oil in it from previous conditioning, that will also help the hair dryer/styler to smooth it.

A silk pillowcase

I think coconut oil is great as well. When you say you sleep with it in your hair, @AllThatHoopla, do you comb it through dry hair and then wash out in the morning?

AllThatHoopla · 06/10/2022 06:50

Yes I do. I slap it on at night on dry hair then a put one of those towelling hats on and wash my hair as normal in the morning. You could just sleep with a towel on your pillow.

My hair is like a shampoo advert in the morning, all silky.

Ladyofthelake53 · 06/10/2022 06:53

Mines very thick, coarse and tends to be dry. It's elbow length.

I no longer use shampoo I co wash, brush through with a tangle teaser, serum or oil when damp and leave it dry naturally. Takes ages to dry but i leave it, don't brush it again.

My hair is wavy though I can't be bothered to fight it I just go with it. It takes almost an hour to blow dry, I have to pin it in layers and dry each layer same if I straighten. too much effort and aching arms !

Thanks, @AllThatHoopla I've got a couple of those towelling hats so I'll give it a go. I'd like to have "advert hair' for a change. 😂

I tried coconut oil , instead of 'advert hair' I was like DogWithFleas .
My scalp was really irritated even though I made sure I put it on the hair shaft not my kin.
<sigh> Drawing Board time .

Off to look at the milkshake range now ....

Greyhairwarmheart · 07/10/2022 07:06

My hair texture improved a lot when I stopped colouring it. It was really coarse and dull before.

peeweep · 13/10/2022 09:28

@LilyPAnderson I’ve just been looking at those Shark hairdryers which have a brush attachment. Is that the sort of thing you mean? Do you brush the outside or the underneath of the hair with ii?

My hair can get dry and frizzy. My trick is to put a pea-sized amount of rich conditioner on my hands, rub it in and then work it into the ends of my hair, butr avoiding the scalp. It makes it look shiny and easier to style, but it doesn;t look greasy or sticky.

ItsRainingPens · 13/10/2022 09:38

I use the Kerastase discipline spray and a Revlon One Step dryer
