Laser, Electrolysis or something else

Has anyone on here had facial hair removal done at a clinic?

I can practically grow a full beard by this point (early 40s), have decided I'd like to do something about it.

Reading up on it, it sounds like electrolysis is the better option, perhaps more expensive but might work out better in the long run.

Any experiences / recommendations / warnings greatly appreciated! TIA

i had electrolysis many years ago for my eyebrows and bikini line. it was very effective but took monthly treatments over a few years. it's not comfortable but it's not horrible and i don't think the chin area is that sensitive so should be fine.
you just want a clean place that has good sterile standards.

I'm having both on my face right now. Laser for some thick dark hairs on my chin and electrolysis on the finer (but still dark) hairs on the sides of my face. They both hurt a bit, but I'd say electrolysis hurts more because it takes longer and the therapist has to be extremely precise with the needle.

I was advised that laser wouldn't work very well on the finer hairs, so that's why I went for electrolysis.

countrypink that's interesting, I didn't know you could combine the two.

fallfallfall thanks, research so far does seem to suggest electrolysis would be the more painful option.

pain of course is individual. but it was certainly not painful enough that i wouldn't attend the next treatment or even give it any thought when rebooking. it's in line with the discomfort of plucking out one hair at a time.

countrypunk · 22/09/2022 22:58

I have to say I find electrolysis MUCH more painful than plucking. They use a needle that sends an electrical current through each individual hair. Some areas on my face are more painful than others - and weirdly I find my right side more painful than the left. Or maybe that's just because they always do my right side first, so by the time it gets to the other side I've built up some tolerance!? Anyway, it's not so painful that I don't want to do it, but I'm very glad when it's over.

the "needle" is a very very fine wire not even as thick as a strand of hair.

countrypunk · 22/09/2022 23:03

Yes, I don't mean to scare anyone when I say needle! The results are totally worth the discomfort.

This is your best option

Laser will get it down to fine hairs which electrolysis will finish off

Electrolysis on its own will take a. very. long. time.

Laser apparently stimulates more growth 😱

Or so this article says anyway

Oh dear I don't want more!

It's ideally whatever gets rid of the hair for the longer term.
