In my mid 30s I researched and bought lots of creams then used them on only one side of my face for a month to see whether they made any actual difference.

La mer was the best, but closely followed by elemis marine cream which was more affordable (thank god).

I only had early signs of aging, very fine lines around eyes and the start of the '11s' between my brows. Made noticeable difference.

Fwiw I went on hols and forgot my stuff so used mils no7 for a fortnight ( the pink one for 50 year olds) and it was incredible so I switched to that. 10 years on I still have minimal lines.

My main issue is when the skin is dry. I’m lucky that 37 and still no wrinkles :).
thanksb

Not remotely. I've had it three years in a row in my advent calendar and I thought it was rubbish. I think my favourite moisturiser is La Roche Posay toleriene. The thing that made most difference to my skin was Tretinoin from Dermatica, everything else just complements that. There isn't anything I would change about my skin these days.

AC2022 · 22/09/2022 22:43

I wanted to love the original cream but it did nothing for me and I gave it away, but I had a sample of the gel cream over a year ago and my skin has never been better. I wouldn’t go as far as to say I glow but I don’t look as bad without make up! I use the hydrator with it and it’s made a massive difference to the moisture of my skin. I do find it expensive and tend to wait for a discount or sale.

toastedcat · 22/09/2022 22:48

I worked at Harvey Nichols ages ago and got a few mini sample pots. Honestly, it reminded me of Pond's Cold Cream! I really didn't get the hype.

EasterIssland · 23/09/2022 08:42

i got the 30ml one, i got 20% off so thought i'd give it a try. thanks all!

Naaah there are much better creams on the market. Sisley do fabulous ones.

PacificState · 23/09/2022 09:02

Yeah I thought it was no better than Astral when I tried it. But skin is so particular - what works for one person may or may not work for another, and what works for the same person will change as they age. La Mer must work for some people, if they're willing to throw that much money at it.

ILikeTheOrangeAndILikeTheIgloo · 23/09/2022 09:06

Isn’t it mainly mineral oil?

Twinsandsome · 26/09/2022 22:29

Hi @EasterIssland has your cream come
and have you tried it yet? I’m tempted with the offer to try it too but it ends tonight x

No sorry. It’ll be here tomorrow
you can buy it and if don’t like it return it even if opened and they’ll give you a gift card for the value (I returned a lipstick )

Or Nivea, which is better.

lunar1 · 27/09/2022 01:05

It's worth it for me. I have awful skin, it reacts to almost everything else. A pot lasts me forever, I also use their tinted moisturiser if I wear makeup and it leaves my skin flawless.

I wouldn't use it if I had other reliable options, but it's much more cost effective than the mass of products I've bought and discovered don't agree with me!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 27/09/2022 09:12

I was given some a few years ago by a relative - I mean it's nice and feels luxurious but I recall it seemed the same as my mum's Nivea in the blue pot.

I personally think, if you can afford expensive skincare then go for it and when I was in my 20s/30s I did tend to use Clinique/Lancome etc over cheaper products.

Nowadays I tend to go for creams either with essential oils in or Boots Vit C cream or a L'Oreal ageing one for night.

I'm lucky though, I've got good skin for my age (probably genetics).

EasterIssland · 02/10/2022 13:43

Tried a few days the cream now and really like it. Not using much as indicated.

Ige got the moisturising one

I have used it for about 15/18 yrs now, it works for me. I love the tinted moisturiser too. I dont care for the gel cream though, just the original.

Venuz · 02/10/2022 16:46

I use the eye and face and face wash. It definitely makes a difference.

No its overhyped.

onlyconnect · 02/10/2022 16:59

Whether it's worth the money depends on how much you've got and whether you personally like the cream.
I've had it twice as a present and really liked it but I wouldn't buy it myself unless I was a lot better off than I currently am.

Livinginanotherworld · 03/10/2022 01:19

I was on my third full size pot when I finally admitted to myself that it had done nothing to my skin. I now use whatever I pick up on offer in Boots.

Yack02 · 03/10/2022 01:36

Absolutely not. I was extremely disappointed, it's almost sticky in texture and leaves your face feeling very tacky. I had to force myself to finish the small jar I had.

WalkthisWayUK · 03/10/2022 01:42

Yes it works for me.

I keep going onto other creams, hoping that they will be better as it’s so expensive. But nothing has been quite the same. I need a thick cream though. Currently with my pot of Nivea which I’ve used for the last 3 months (cost of living crisis making me think creme de la mer is way too much now, even if one 30ml pot lasts me 6 months) - and my skin is not that great - it is moisturised but no glow, no feeling of good texture.

My skin is not that wrinkled, in my 50s, but it does look ‘saggy’ around the chin and eyes, is quite thick and textured, but gets so dry in the middle I get red patches around my mouth, nose and forehead.

So perhaps it’s people like me with quite problematic but non wrinkly skin?
