How do I make my hair look like this?

I've been watching series 1 of The Capture and want my hair to look like Holliday Grainger's Blush (pic here)

At the moment my hair is below shoulder length and all one length- the hairdresser did cut into it a bit but it still looks a bit bulky. It's not thick, exactly, but plentiful. It has a slight natural wave in parts but not all over, which never looks on trend if left to dry naturally- more frizz than beach.

I feel I could possibly make my hair do something like this but have no idea what sort of basic cut I'd need. Would I need to ask for layers? Or just ask for a bit more to be cut into it? And would it involve some sort of trickery with GHDs? I am totally cack handed and can never put waves in using straighteners...

Advice from anyone who knows about things like this gratefully received.

Did you how your stylist that photo? Unless you're lucky that wave involves lots of styling.

No I didn't- this is me planning my next visit!

Re styling - hmm, yes that's my concern.

Sorry don't think that worked. Google large barrel wave wand/ jumbo waver. I love mine!

Mine looks like that if I wash it and leave it but scrunch drying with mousse would work too.

Funny, go to bed with it wet. Or a good sweaty workout. That’s a messy lifestyle look.

Comfyslippers74 · 22/09/2022 15:45

Thanks, all! Washing and leaving it makes mine look a bit flat (wavy when wet but flat when dry). Maybe I'll give the mousse a try.

The nearest I've come is drying it straight then going for a walk in drizzle or mist - tricky to incorporate into my hair styling routine on a regular basis, unfortunately.

Okay so maybe a little water spritzer to mimic drizzle?

Mine is quite like Holly Grainger (although FYI, I have always hated my hair) if it's that length.

My hair is pretty wavy and sometimes goes into ringlets depending how hard/soft the water is. If your hair is wavy when wet, you might well be able to get it to look like that by switching the products you use.

Without going full CGM, I'd give the following a go to see what you get: wash with shampoo and conditioner that don't contain silicones; brush when it's sopping wet in the shower (and only then); mousse/gel/curl creme (preferably CGM approved) squished into your wet hair; leave to dry without touching or diffuse on cool.

You might well get a similar result and can adapt from there!

My hair looks almost exactly like that but it's naturally wavy. It's cut into what my hairdresser calls a layered bob, but the layers are subtle and mostly around my face. I'm in the US so I don't know if it's available in the UK, but I use this product to fluff it up.

That could actually be the simple yet genius solution! Thanks! So obvious now you say it!

This is intriguing. I have occasionally dipped into the CG threads on here but been scared off by how complicated it seems. You make it sound nice and simple - I might give this a try too!

i do cg, but have naturally curly hair that only needs a bit of accentuating.
weekly shampoo with a cheap 2 in 1 shampoo the entire family uses (Dove bought bulk from Costco).
then each day i shower, wet my hair and apply a good curly girl conditioner (Diva Curl hydrating something or other) let it sit while i wash and do a quick rinse.
once out if the shower dry myself and hair with a towel as usual.
once dressed apply a curl cream again i'm using Diva Curl stuff but i was gifted Moroccan oil curl cream and it was equally nice.
that's it no diffuser nothing in my case not even a comb through certainly never a brush.
