I don't know if this is old age but my skin is just so dry.

It's been ONE day of temperatures below 20 and my lips are getting dry and sore, my hands are so dry there are little cuts appearing and my legs and feet are a peeling mess.

Can anyone recommend good moisturisers? Do you use different ones for different parts of the body, or will any cheap moisturiser do the job as long as used daily?

I love hand creams but genuinely don't think I've ever found one that works. The thought of living the next 6 months with dry, peeling, uncomfortable skin is depressing me!

I love Occitan's hand cream - rich but not greasy. Dali Hughes talks about some dryness needing hyaluronic, and my skin definitely feels less dry since using this. It feels a bit tacky but moisturiser just wouldn't keep my skin from getting dry. The ordinary do a fairly cheap one

I've used Neutrogena Norwegian formula hand cream for years. Only one I've found that works that I'm not allergic to.

Body shop pure monoi oil works well as a body moisturiser in mid winter.

My daughter likes the Nivea lip balms & also Bodyshop ones as a treat.

It's not always easy to find, but the best body lotion I have ever used is the Palmer's olive oil one (green bottle). I brought some back from the US and managed to get more on Amazon, but I don't think I've seen it in a shop here.

The Body Shop’s Hemp hand cream is a good cheaper alternative to L’Occitaine’s. I prefer L’Occitaine’s over the smell of the hemp though! Both are very rich and very effective.

Clarins night cream is amazing for face.

Yes I think you need different cream for different areas according to need. Hands take a lot of battering especially in winter. Always dry them meticulously after washing them.

Drink lots too - I find that helps.

Epaderm. Recommended to me by a dermatologist. So much cheaper than all the expensive serums, oils and creams I used to use to try to keep my skin in any way moisturised and so much more effective! Can use on face and body.

Good old vaseline! Smoother sore hands with it before bed, pop some cotton gloves (or socks) on, and by morning they're not sore any more.

Vitamin C oil has been great on my face, and I use on my hands at night. I definitely have to use hand cream less regularly. It's about £4.50 from tesco.

Pixiedust1234 · 19/09/2022 00:04

I cant stand the greasiness on my face but mine has gone really dry and flaky this year. Hoping for some inspiration.

I swear by nivea lip balm during the day for lips but if they get really bad then some vaseline overnight.

TheOnlyBeeInYourBonnet · 19/09/2022 00:09

Definitely the l'Occitane hand cream.

I boost my moisturiser with oils if needed, e.g Palmers cocoa butter oil followed by the lotion. Rosehip oil on my face then a layer of blue Nivea.

Pure vitamin E oil on my lips overnight.

PeloFondo · 19/09/2022 00:28

Use tepid water to shower and think layers of hydration
Bioderma shower oil to wash with
In shower moisturiser (Nivea do one or sanctuary)
Neutrogena spray moisturiser
I really like caudalie hand cream as it's not greasy but if my hands are awful then the neutrogena one works best, slathered on at night

Hayegernz · 19/09/2022 00:50

Lots of good ideas thank you!

I forgot about Neutrogena Norwegian handcream, that one does actually work for me so I'll get some. I love the smell of l'occitane but it doesn't work for me when they are very dry unfortunately.

Never heard of a spray moisturiser, that sounds amazing!

I definitely don't drink enough water and BF so definitely need to make an effort on that front.

I swear when I was young, dryness was only an issue when the temperature was close to zero. Getting old socks!

@TheOnlyBeeInYourBonnet what’s your source for pure vitamin E oil?

GobbolinoTheWitchesCat · 19/09/2022 02:34

Vaseline for my lips
Cereve with urea for seriously dry skin on body, otherwise aloe vera
Rosehip oil for my face

learieonthewildmoor · 19/09/2022 06:09

Try some rose hip oil with your moisturiser.
