Hiking leggings/tights

I want some hiking tights or slim trousers I can tuck into socks/boots. I am not a seasoned hiker but after walking up Pen y Fan, would now like to try to gain some experience so I could work up to something challenging. Am happy to invest in a decent pair as will be able to wear the same ones each time can't go really often.

A lot of people recommend acai but not sure if they are more fashion than practical. Plus someone said they could cause thrush if you are prone which I am.

I agree about Decathlon and Kalenji leggings in particular - wash well, often have good pockets, and the thermal ones saw me through two winters of outdoor gym! I've never had anything from Decathlon that hasn't worked and lasted well, so I think it is a really good place so start.

I have a down & pertex gilet from MW that was £12 in the sale and is as good as anything I've had from TNF, Rab, Montane etc. It's my best outdoor bargain ever.

You can buy really good stuff from the value brands like Decathlon. My go-to running gear is either Decathlon or Nike. Two totally different price points but perfect for my needs.

@FurAndFeathers

OK

EmpressoftheMundane · 19/09/2022 12:00

I’ve just order

EmpressoftheMundane · 19/09/2022 12:01

…ordered some Decathlon hiking tights. Thank you for the tip!

ArabeI · 19/09/2022 12:17

I'd recommend Montane (as has already been mentioned) or Salomon as good quality brands to look at. I usually run rather than hike and have also bought from both brands for warmer wear and colder environments.

ArabeI · 19/09/2022 12:19

Though I do just wear running leggings if I do ever hike; anything from Sweaty Betty to Brooks.

Work2live · 19/09/2022 12:23

These leggings from Rab are absolutely the warmest ones I own.

Not cheap but SO warm, cosy and comfortable. Otherwise, I find M&S thermal leggings good - with waterproof trousers over the top if it’s wet.

Or as pp have said, for ‘normal’ conditions I find standard running/gym leggings fine for hiking.

I asked for my original post to be removed as I did not intend to start a bun fight, just wanted to be helpful. Bit disappointed really.

OP please buy your trousers from where ever you wish!

Enjoy your hiking. There are lots of wonderful places in the UK to explore.

Rockingcloggs · 19/09/2022 12:38

Are you anywhere near Alfreton? You can get some real Rab bargains in the factory store there.

Personally I wear Rab, Montane, Mountain Equipment or Revolution Race.

No bun fight, just a discussion on a discussion thread
and no need for dramatic announcements 😂

Ooh! Thanks @Rockingcloggs
i didn’t know there was a RAB outlet there! They’re one of my favourite brands and not too far away 😊

Rockingcloggs · 19/09/2022 13:45

@FurAndFeathers

They're called 'mountain outfitters' on Facebook, it gives you their opening hours on there too! Word of warning - if it's a 'special event' day you will need to queue as it gets busy so best to get their early! But you really can drop on some absolute bargains!

cherrypiepie · 19/09/2022 13:54

@FurAndFeathers yes probably should have just ignored you from the outset!

WhoppingBigBackside · 19/09/2022 17:16

My MW hiking boots are fine.

You’re welcome to 😆
literally no need for the dramatics - you are perfectly entitled to hold a different opinion 🙂

Right going to try the Decathlon ones. SB always need pulling up repeatedly over my C section tum. My one pair of Lululemons are v comfortable though so may try those for warmer days.

That way I can splash out on the boots although I always tend to ruin them by being over zealous with the cleaning

Worth looking at north face - I have a pair of leggings from there which have been constructed for hiking (if that makes sense!) ie they have specially tailored knees so stretch and support. I also have a pair of trousers from there for warmer weather walks. Both very comfortable and high waisted. Purchased in the sale and lasted a good three or four years of bush hiking in Australia 👍

I have these ones from Amazon. They stay up well and are warmer than most running leggings.

I wear Montane Ineo Pro-the cut works for me and I like them far better than flappy trousers. It’s tough material and they have articulated knees so free and easy movement if you’re clambering up a crag. Have had mine for 3 hears and still goi g strong.
