Acne

Has anyone managed to cure their acne without oral prescription medication?

I have had acne since I was 14 and I’m mid 30s. The only time it was ever under control was when using Proactiv from the US. I have pitted acne scarring, tried microneedleding and was left with severe acne.

I cannot take roaccutaine or spiro because of a benign liver growth. I also don’t want more antibiotics. Tried them for years, numerous types.

I don’t get on well with tretinoin/adapalene, salicylic acid or Niacinamide. Epidio didn’t work. Currently using duac and still getting cystic acne.

My skin is SO oily. Not just my face, although I never get acne anywhere else. Within 15 mins of washing my face, it literally looks like I’ve rubbed it with olive oil.

Had a scan, don’t have Polycystic ovaries and conceive easily with no hormone problems.

Currently using Cerave foaming cleanser, Cosrx snail mucin and La Roche Posay Toleraine sensitive fluid, with Duac at night.

I’m so sick of it! I know it’s not the biggest issue and it’s not affecting my mental health in the way it did when I was younger but it’s frustrating to have acne while also beginning to get wrinkles!

Thanks :)

Have you ever just left your skin alone
For say four weeks to see what happens?

Sent too soon sorry. I had terrible skin, now I don't do anything apart from a vitamin e make up wipe from Superdrug and blue Nivea at night twice a week.

I haven't cleared mine up using antibiotics etc but mine has cleared up using Yasmin contraceptive pill in addition to this I use the La Roche Posay Effaclar range, the facewash, toner and the serum, it's really helped with pores and keeping further acne under control.
I was on Yasmin for a number of years then had DD then I was unable to be prescribed it again as it's associated with blood clots. I work in the NHS and have asked one of my nurse colleagues who advised that mostly ALL contraceptive pills are associated with blood clots so I got a private prescription and paid for this and now back on Yasmin and it's cleared my adult acne up in a matter of 2 weeks. I will take stock after the 6 month packet finishes.

I was on Yasmin years ago and it did work well for me. I can’t go back on it now as I’m prone to high blood pressure.

I bought the Effaclar face was this weekend and now my face is incredibly itchy. I put a blob on my inner elbow and left it there all day and no allergic reaction, so I’m guessing it’s more of a sensitivity thing. I don’t know if I should preserve or go back to the cerave I was using before. Every time I try to do something positive it backfires with my skin!

I wouldn’t use anything that reacted with my skin like that.
