Could someone recommend a skin care routine please?

Hi, I know I should know by now but I basically wash my face with shower gel and then use simple moisturiser. I’m getting fine lines and flakey skin and thinking I need something better!

I have no idea what a good routine looks like and what products are best. Could anyone help?

A routine doesn't need to be complicated. Start by watching Nadine Baggott videos on YT. She has a brilliant one about how all we need are 5 things.
Cleanser
Moisturizer
SPF
Then, if you want to add anti-ageing bits, then a vitamin C serum in the morning and a retinol at night.
Choose your own price point, you don't need to spend on cleanser or moisturizer.
But start with Nadine (I recommend her so much people on here probably think I am her!) I realized after starting to watch her that I'd bought into the "you need 28 serums each doing something different thing" and it's not true.

I had a more involved skincare regime going and then got horrific perioral dermatitis. I now do wash with cerave cleanser in the morning and put on spf, then wash with cerave at bedtime and put on aveeno cream. My skin looks good.

I’m still trying to recover from shower gel! 😱

I would recommend getting a decent cleanser. If you don’t want to spend loads, start with Cerave which they sell in Superdrug.

Buy a cleanser with hyaluronic acid, and a day cream with SPF and a night cream. You could also use a serum with vitamin C Before you moisturise. I’d also recommend getting into the habit of an eye cream as SPF creams aren’t suitable for eye orbit area.

a good skin regime is worth it. Also a facial once a month if you can stretch to that.

Shower gel 😱

The Inky List Oat Milk Cleanser is a good budget one that's kind to all skin types.

Cleanse with that.

Then if you want to tackle lines and skin texture it's worth trying Tretinoin which is very well documented to improve signs of aging. Dermatica is great for this.

Then moisturise, cerave, Inky List, La Roche Posay are all decent brands that won't break the bank.

In the morning, cleanse and Spf 50.

Doing only this consistently for 3 months, you will see a big improvement.

If you fancy Dermatica I'm.a huge fan here is a discount link but no pressure obviously, it's a subscription, i get it every 6 weeks and use nightly.

Hi, I'm looking for the same advice really, I'm very interested to signing up to dermatica but not sure what I'd actually get, would I still need to cleanse, moisturise and SPF as well as dermatica? And what do you use when?

Yes. The Dermatica cream contains a blend of active ingredients you can't buy over the counter in stores.

You cleanse, add Dermatica cream, moisturise in the evening.

In the morning cleanse if you wish or just wash with water and then Spf.

It's a very simple routine. Key is consistency.

If you don't like Dermatica it's easy to stop it or delay the delivery to come less frequently.

Get the Sali Hughes range from Revolution, cleanser, exfoliating lotion, serum, moisturising balm. Simple and effective. I've switched from Elemis.

I absolutely love The Ordinary! The Squalane Cleanser is honestly great for cleansing your skin without drying it out & the whole range is fairly inexpensive so you can have a go at different stuff without breaking the bank. I’d recommend their Daily Set as a starting point.

Thank you everyone! I’ve bought the Cerave cleanser, blemish cream and lotion as it was 3 for 2 in boots. Just thought I’d start with that and maybe get a different moisturiser soon. Do I put the blemish cream on before the moisturiser?
